Wed Reading Meme...

Which admittedly feels redundant, since I have a habit of discussing the books I'm reading in other posts.

1. What You Just Finished Reading

The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook - which was okay. In some respects it comments on Wellington (the actual Iron Duke), but not quite cleverly enough. The world-building is great fun, and the zombies remind me a little of the ones in The Walking Dead. But the romance was a tad on the cliche side. The hero not quite as interesting or developed as he should have been. But the heroine was admittedly awesome. Overall? It drug a bit, and I felt like it left out the more interesting bits of the story - focusing on the romance, which was the least interesting bit instead.

Will state if alpha heroes who feel overcome with the lust! - bug you, you may wish to skip. The plot, heroine and world-building aren't worth the agony. Okay, maybe the heroine is.

2. What you are reading now

A Heart of a Star by Casey Mansfield - my cousin's book, which I've chosen not to review any further than I already have. I have a policy - I do not review books by people that I know personally. I learned this the hard way reviewing fanfic on livejournal and getting myself into all sorts of trouble as a result. After all? I wouldn't want my family members and friends to review my book.

Will tell you what it is about:

Natalie, upon her 21st birthday, decides to travel to Dallas with her five best buds to see their favorite band. Her friends don't know that Natalie is planning on doing a heck of a lot more than just see the band and have fun in Dallas. She also plans on finding and confronting her estranged father and obtaining answers to secrets buried in her past, which only he has the answers to. That is if she can convince her brothers to tell her where to find him. Add to the mix - one of her best friends is madly in love with her. And she hasn't told them anything about her family or that her estranged father brothers (or so she believes) just happen to be the front-men to their favorite band. Much chaos is about to ensue.

Still reading Playbuilding as Quantitative Research by Joe Norris which details the creation of the Canadian educational theater project "Mirror Theater".

3.What you are reading next?

The Skin Game by Jim Butcher, then possibly Moon Called by Patricia Briggs or The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer.
