Decided to stop off in Fort Green at Whole Foods - to pick up Birthday treats.
1. Three slices of By the Way Bakery's Gluten-Free Cake. They are self-contained large slices. One is chocolate cake (frosted). One of Birthday Sprinkle Cake - Frosted. And One of Cloud Coconut Cake, frosted. I could have gotten a small Red Velvet Gluten-Free Cake - but it's too much cake for me. (It's a mini-cake that serve five-six people. Uh, no.)
2. Maine Shredded Lobster Claw Meat with sauce.
3. Maine Lobster Bisque
And other essentials (like gluten free unsweetened cereal, water, celery juice, strawberries (and apparently coconut slices). But those were the treats.
Below is a picture of Fort Green, where the Whole Foods Store is (it's behind the Apple Store) and in front of the Atlantic Avenue Terminal - ie, the train station and subway hub.)

Work and riding the trains/subways is becoming increasingly a kind of COVID obstacle course in regards to masks. I've had to learn how to deal with the folks who don't think they should have to wear masks any longer. ( Read more... )
When I finally made it home - I ran into a couple of signs in the doorway of the apartment complex.
Sign #1: The following apartments (thankfully not mine) needs to pick up their packages from the Super. The package thief returned to the building. He took the elevator upstairs first to search the floors for packages near people's doors. While he was doing this - a tenant had alerted us to his presence, so we grabbed all the packages from the lobby and locked them in our apartment (Super's apartment). So when he returned to the lobby empty handed - there were no packages. (We used the bag Amazon left behind.)
Sign #2: We are replacing the Burner (I think they mean the Broiler), on Monday and Tuesday of next week, March 14 and 15, so there will be no hot water or heat from 8am Monday to Tuesday afternoon.
In other words, it's a good thing I decided not to take Monday and Tuesday off next week. I'd rather be at work while that's happening. I'll take a shower Sunday night or early Monday morning, and I can go until Tuesday evening without another one.
Anyhow, I'm glad I got to take tomorrow off instead - it's my birthday, it's supposed to snow, rain, sleet and be nasty. Also, it'll break up the week nicely. A nice mental health break. I can sleep in, make myself a nice breakfast, meditate, and relax. Also I need a break from crazy organization for a little bit.
I've accomplished stuff this week - and made myself indispensable to management. Go me. Railing at management doesn't work - helping management and being a good team player - does work. I'm kind of proud of myself. Heading into my birthday in a good mood. Considering I was depressed the last two weeks, this is a good thing. I honestly think it was the February and beginning of March uglies. I kind of turn a corner around March 7 or 8th.
The trick of course is to plan a few nice little things for myself.
Wales and I are making plans to go out for burgers, fries, and Margaritas on Friday. So I've that to look forward to.

The other trick is to stop:
1. Paying attention to the news. I skim, but don't read too closely the Times' Briefings. Also delete a lot of them without reading at all. In addition - I listen to NY1, which is mainly weather, transit, and local stuff.
2. Pull back on social media usage. I'm rarely on either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram any longer.
These two shifts - have lightened my mood greatly, lessened my anger, and reduced my blood pressure.
3. Don't watch things that make me angry. Don't read things that do. Back away from unnecessary conflicts.
Tonight, after my soap, I may watch Red Panda on Disney +.

Leo pointed out today that in another week - we'll hit our anniversary. Two years since we shut down for the pandemic. New York locked down on March 17, 2020 or rather that week. We were among the last to go remote. We kind of mark it - each year. I've been counting from that day, March 17, 2020.
It has been almost 2 years since March 17, 2020 - the day my life changed.
