[This is the first post I felt the need to put "viewer discretion advised" on..mainly because of #2, which is a review of a rather sexually explicit anime that I think should be rated R or NC-17 for mature content.]

1. Had a rather lengthy discussion with one of my co-workers about libraries and what modern libraries should house in their collections, and the degree to which they should focus on making space and paying for high-tech gadgetry.

Backing up a bit? Co-worker has recently joined the Board of Directors at his local branch library out in Nassau County, Long Island. He came to me for my opinion regarding an argument between the head librarian and a patron, who is a close friend of his.

The friend wrote a lengthy email to co-worker, requesting his review of it, and asking him to forward it to the head librarian. In the email, the friend, who I'll call Fred, was upset that the library had removed various architectural design books and non-fiction books from its shelves and substantially decreased the non-fiction section in favor of a broader selection of fictional works and to make space for 3D Printer, Digtial Camera, Gaming, Mac-Book Pro, and something else. The head librarian's focus was on the demands of the community, what they wanted, and what was in demand. She also felt that the library should provide materials that would aid students in finding jobs and developing careers.

I don't know, haven't used a library in a long time, what do you think?

2. Anime reviews

Devilman Crybaby - this is a weird anime. The art blew me away. The credits alone are amazing. It's innovative, different, and the people are drawn in various styles and are diverse.
It's not cartoonish at all -- it's like looking at a painting. Almost as if someone blended Art Linklater's style with Harukami's and well...made it NC-17 or X-rated. (Only seen three-four episodes of it to date.)

That's the problem I have with it. It's...well...at times...feels like hard-core pornography - except animated drawings not real people. Lots of women in various stages of undress, masturbating or posing. ( somewhat spoilery and not for the overly prudish )

comments
