Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers - it's a Western. And Rogers first novel, written in 1974. The beginning of the bodice ripper genre.

Yeah, I tried Outlander. Found it long and the lead characters annoyed me. So gave up 100 pages from the end. (I admittedly skipped ahead, and I also skimmed the sequels in the bookstore.)
