5:11 pm - Doing laundry, or rather I took my laundry down to the sweaty basement, popped it in, and came back up again. The elevator dates back to 1927 and is a gold plated art deco cage. But not quite as sweaty as one might expect. It's in the 90s today, with a 100% humidity. The humidity is the killer. Although experienced worse in Kansas, with 115 degrees and 100% humidity.
Been staying off social media lately. For various reasons, one, don't have much to say. Not really reading, watching or doing anything of interest to anyone but myself. Or rather, not watching/reading anything I feel a pressing need to discuss with the world at large. Two, social media can be distressing. This is a recent epithany that I've reached. I've discovered that I'm less depressed when I'm not on social media or the internet. There can be such a thing as too much information. Been also avoiding the news, in all it's shapes and forms. This is made easier by streaming you-tube videos on my Amazon Fire Stick. Three? My wifi is giving me all sorts of issues lately.
5:19 pm -- in a bit of a reading and writing slump. But overall happy enough. Learning how to watch my thoughts and let go of the negative thoughts that threaten to drag me into the abyss. They come, I look at them, then just let them flit off like evil butterflies. There's a couple of books that sort of explain this practice entitled "The Pristine Mind", "Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook" and "The Power of Now". The first two are easier to read than the last one, which appears to be written by a marketing guy turned philosophy major, self-help guru.
Politics? I've decided to ignore it. Can't do anything about it until November anyhow. Come November 4, I will worry about it. But not until then. A co-worker attempted to engage me in a political discussion and I said, "Let's not discuss politics or this election, it will only drive us both crazy."
5:40 PM - went back down to the basement, pulled the laundry out and put it in the dryer. Another woman, Russian, put her laundry in the washer. The hallway outside my apartment smells like garlic and curry. Don't really mind, as long as it stays outside the apartment.
