My uncle did manage to trace a relative back to the 1700s in Germany. I think he did it with the DNA results. He did the test. He's also talking his siblings into it, and has gotten more than one to do it. But you almost have to do it that way.

That explains the Bayern and Bavaria notations in ancestry. Clearly some people are using the German and some the English version of these place names.
