Exactly. I was watching Jessica Jones S2...and the live-in boyfriend, Griffin, decides to do a huge surprise party for JJ's adopted sister Trish. He invites everyone that she knows, holds it at a rooftop restaurant, and tricks Trish into thinking she's coming to a meeting for a coveted job with a cable news channel which she's always wanted. She shows up and he proposes, and she couldn't be more disappointed. All I could think --- was what an ass move. She's trapped. And had to get him off to a safe corner where she could turn him down gently and in private. If someone did that to me, I'd say no, and never speak to him again.
It reminds me of why I really didn't like the Kiss Cam scene in Set Them Up.
Found that scene cringe-inducing and unwatchable. The two people are being "bullied" into kissing. It's gross and an invasion of privacy.
I don't like being the center of attention...some people do, of course they tend to be narcissists...;-)
