Yeah, I despise hurricane evacuations...it makes me miss the Midwest, when all we did was hunker down in the basement. Because honestly what else can you do?

I absolutely adore a collection of short stories she wrote, The Compass Rose, but like you, I've always had a hard time getting into her novels. Although one of my earliest movie memories was a PBS film adaptation of her novel The Lathe of Heaven, which I was fascinated by as a kid.

Exactly the same way. I also loved her Wizard of Earthsea series, which I vaguely remember reading as a kid. But that was more...a coming of age, heroe's journey tale. And I read the Compass Rose short stories and was fascinated by Lathe of Heaven too.

But I can't get into her books at all. I've tried.

I have the first in the Lady Trent memoirs, but have been wary...mainly because I'm not sure how much patience I have for a Victorian travelogue about taking care of Yaks. On the other hand, I really like travelogues.
And adore Dragons.
