Oh, yeah, microwaved potatoes are every bit as good as slow baked. (I've never poked holes in a potato to bake it, but in the microwave? Absolutely necessary.)

When I was a kid many people talked about driving a big nail into a potato so it would bake faster. Since the nails were plated it probably was not a good idea.
