Eli Roth's "History of Horror" series told the story of six year old Guillermo del Toro watching "Creature from the Black Lagoon" in Mexico, thinking it was a romance between the gill man and the girl. And when it didn't turn out that way, little Guillermo was outraged.

It took him nearly half a century, but he finally told his version.

I've talked about Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) in my journal before, but it's worth repeating here. Don Coscarelli (the creator behind the Phantasm series) never made a movie with more humor and heart, as Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis face down the horrors of aging--and a mummy draining the life out of their Texas nursing home:
