Day 239 of Corona Virus Diaries
It's raining. Gloomy, humid, warm day - co-workers found it to be hot in their various locals. It was in the 70s and humid, we're getting the remanents of Hurrican Eta or Zeta, I've lost track.
Just got off the phone with my niece aka the love of my life. She's doing well, tested negative again - she said she's on a winning streak. Also not so happy with her cheese-making class - which was supposed to be a fun course where she made cheese. Instead, it appears to be a dissertation on the history and means and methods of cheese making - complete with essays, readings, and tests, plus lab. So much for a quick blow off course, right?
Crazy Workplace
Russian Co-worker: Why did the project get assigned to Chidi?
Boss (half-joking): Well bad karma does come back and hit you...
Russian Co-worker: Huh?
Boss: Seriously folks you have to put our customer's needs first and foremost. Not all of them are trained project managers like engineering and project management - who can run projects, estimate and can write technical scopes of work. Sometimes you have to assist them with this.
Email from Russian Co-worker: So, is there training on Project Management, technical scopes and estimating we can take that we hold help us in this regard and further us in the marketplace?
ME: Bwhhahhahha.
I found this hilarious. Mainly because I remember asking a similar question of a crazy boss back at evil library company. Except I went the extra mile and provided him with a course that he could send me to. He ignored me.
Also, because Lando used to lecture Boss and everyone else on the inability of project management and engineering to do any of the above.
And well, everyone on the meeting has had the same battles with boss and gotten nowhere.
Meanwhile, Gabe told everyone about The Home COVID TEST KIT - which our insurance apparently covers.
What she didn't tell them is that you have to have been exposed to COVID or have symptoms to get the kit.
She uses it to deal with her anxieties. If she was in a large gathering - she takes the test, if she's feeling under the weather she takes the test, if her son is under the weather he takes the test, if her grandmother is afraid of leaving the house - she takes the test. And she like to always have one on hand - at home.
So basically, she lies and gets a bunch of tests, then takes them when she needs to.
That's not what they were designed for. Also it's not free - the insurance is paying for them. And the insurance has costs that trickle down. Plus, there's not an unlimited supply - or they'd be free. And they aren't fool-proof.
I don't know, I can't do it. My moral code won't let me. But I decided not to tell her that. Everyone is different.
Family vs. Our Crazy Politics
Niece has decided she'll be happier in the UK or Canada, so is applying to the London School of Economics, Oxford, McGill, and the University of Toronto, with Columbia and Bard and Yale as backups.
Yes, I know. Big name schools. I'm humbled too.
I told her the UK wasn't much better off than we were, actually I had social media friends over there - and the reports aren't good. She figures anywhere is better than here.
She's having difficulty focusing right now on school. She likes to write though, but like the rest of us is struggling with reading anything or focusing on things. She has to focus on school and keep her grades up, and just get through - but it's hard, she says to stay motivated. This is a teenager who just the year before - loved school, loved learning, and was getting straight A's. Apparently her French teacher held a quiz at 10 am the morning after the election - which niece got a D on, but she's thinking she can get it up to a C and she's taking it Pass/Fail anyhow, so may not matter. She doesn't appear to care overly much, when last year she was upset that she got a B on a photography project.
Meanwhile, sister-in-law is pushing folks to email or phone Emily Murphy. I had to look her up. Apparently she's the head of the GSA who refuses to acknowledge Biden's status as President Elect and won't help with the transition.
I considered it. But decided it would be useless. Also I tried to writ a couple of emails - and each one turned into a furious rant. So not a good idea.
I'm going to have to wait this out.
The Universe keeps telling me that the thing will be gone by December, but I don't quite believe it.
Meanwhile...mother is worried about the Doofus appointing conspiracy theorists to the Pentagone. I told her to stop worrying about it. We can't do anything about it at the moment any how.
That's the problem not being able to do much about the nitwits who want to destroy my country to further their own fascist agendas.
You Know its' a Bad Year - when people are planning coups regarding your favorite comfort shows..
Apparently there are bloggers planning to retool the Great British Baking Show, which ahem, has lost its charm.
Paul Hollywood Must Be Stopped and Great British Bake Off Retooled
Honestly, I think it's the curse of too many seasons and popularity.
Although I do agree, it does require retooling. They need to get rid of two of the men, and replace them with women or someone else.
New York vs. the Corona Virus
After NY and everyone else have been stating for months that wearing a mask protects you and those around you... The CDC finally updated its information to state basically the same thing.
And New York is back to imposing restrictions on bars, restaurants and indoor gatherings.
And on Twitter the Mayor reported a 2.53% uptick in cases overall in the city and fears a second wave. He wants people social distance, wear masks and protect each other. Per the comments, I'm finding myself rooting for COVID to take half of these idiots out of the game.
Sigh. It's worse overseas, apparently. India kind of gave up and stopped tracking the virus and people are partying it up like there's no tomorrow.
Meanwhile Texas hit 1 million cases and El Paso is about to collapse literally under the weight of the virus.
There are however lots of competing vaccines on the horizon. Russia may have one that works. So too may Pfizer/Biotench (The US/German partnership).
The Chinese one is being experimented on in Brazil with mixed results.
I fear this is indeed the Big Mutant Zombie Apocalypse That Wasn't.
Meanwhile...inside my bubble - all is well. No one is sick or exposed. Even though I keep seeing maskless wonders coming in and out of my building without a care in the world.
