Day #282 - Merry Christmas Redux

Lovely day so far - okay not so lovely outside - but I see a spark of sun peeking beyond the clouds, which appear to be slowly drifting northward. We didn't really get the storm that they predicted. Just rain, no winds, no lighting, none of that. Just rain. And it was over by ten am or mid-morning.
Chose not to walk around the cemetery today - in honor of those visiting it to see loved ones. And until this moment - it's been kind of bleak and over cast. Right now it's clearing off and I actually see streaks of sun and blue between the clouds. It'll be dark soon enough and the Cemetery closes at five. Takes me at least twenty minutes to get there.

I was hot this morning, so opened a window and turned on the air conditioner. Then it got cooler and I closed the window. (Why the window, as opposed to turning off the a/c? Ah, allergies. The a/c cleans the air. It's a window a/c in the bedroom.)

The littlest Christmas Tree.

Talked parents (on speaker - making it almost impossible to understand them), and Wales also on speaker - and it was actually easier to understand her (no, she wasn't with my parents - this was separately). All appear to be hanging in there and having an okay and overall pleasant Christmas. Wales sound cheerier than usual or expected. (She's not in the Christmas spirit this year and didn't get anything for anyone, apparently and is cut off from her father. I advised that she ask her siblings to get a message to him from her - and give them the benefit of the doubt. Stating she couldn't get through for some reason, and would they kindly tell him Merry Christmas for her and that she loved him? In 50 years, I've learned kindness gets you further than anything else.)

I'm enjoying mine in spite of the circumstances. I don't really mind being alone or on my own (as you all know by now) - also I'd be miserable with my parents right now. Mother's back is killing her and she can barely walk around without pain at the moment. (We're hoping this will pass and is just a temporary thing - my father is understandably worried. He's also seeing people. During the phone call, he asked her what she was going to feed and do with all the people in the room. I told her that at least it wasn't cats.) So we couldn't do much - this always happens in and around Christmas - making me think it might be weather related. Also thinking that visiting them at another time of the year may make more sense? (As soon as we all get the vaccine and the all clear is provided - I plan on getting plane tickets and flying down to see them. But my guess is that won't be until August 2021.)

Niece adored her flowering Tea set. Sisinlaw sent a photo of her with her mouth hanging open in surprise and glee. [Being there in person would be problematic in a way - since they have a lot of stuff I can't eat - pastries, croissants, cookies, breads, Christmas cake, and pies...] Wales wanted to know if I had Christmas Cake, then checked herself.."you really can't eat Christmas Cake can you?" No, but I have a very nice Apple Pie that was pre-made and just required baking. (It's better than the pre-made pumpkin pie in my opinion.) The metroformin has made me not crave sweets the way I used to. I've no interest in baking or having Christmas cookies at the moment. I did crave them. So much so, I ordered them from Etsy - only to have them get stuck in transit. They appear to be somewhere between here and Utah, same with some fudge I ordered. That's okay, of all the things to get stuck in transit - I'm glad it is just those two.

Santa was kind to me this year, no coal in the old stocking. See, I got the fluffy UGG slippers from Papa.

In other news..

I was scrolling through my DW correspondence list...(which is really just a handful of folks, most people who have friended me and vice versa appear to be lurkers or left entirely). Anyhow..one of the entries was "Buffy versus Fanfiction" - or that's what I read, I did a doubletake, and alas no, it was Buffy verse Fanfiction. I was disappointed. So if you've made it thus far and have a clue what I'm talking about and are looking for a Buffy fanfic challenge - try that one. Come on, it's begging to be writ.

Anyhow, Merry Christmas to those who celebrate. And happy Friday to those who don't.

One more week - and we can possibly all get out of 2020 alive.

Off to watch Wonder Woman! And maybe make dinner. It doesn't require much. I have pre-prepared sirlon steak, cauliflower parmesene mash, broccoli and fingerling potatoes - that just require heating up and searing. And an apple pie - heat up. So about 15-20 minutes tops. I can wait until 6 or 7 to do it.
