Two quick thoughts. First, my mother was a HUGE John Wayne fan. When I was a kid we watched his movies all the time. Wayne was a terrible person, but I can't resist the movies.

Second, I read just this morning that the faster-spreading version of Covid has been in CA since November. That probably explains why we've been hit so hard -- the previously effective protections stopped being as effective.
