Happy USA Thanksgiving to those who celebrate...

Lovely Thanksgiving dinner with Wales, who left around 5:30-6pm. It was dark when she left and felt much much later. Listening to the Elton John Concert that was filmed at Dodger Stadium - it's okay, I like his recorded music better. Live Concerts don't always have the best sound or performance, in my opinion. (With the possible exception of Peter Gabriel and Janis Ian.)

Fixed Rock Cornish hens, and Wales put the pre-prepared stuffing in one of them, which I separated with aluminum foil. With it, I served a green bean/brocolli veggie medley. It was seasoned with herbs of provence, lemon juice, butter, salt, black pepper, and papricka. Turned out rather well, except for the stuffing (which according to Wales lacked the proper seasoning).

She had a pomegrant berry diet drink with vodka. I had pellgrino sparkling water with lemon zest, and iced green tea.

And for desert the gluten free pumpkin pie - that I picked up from Whole Foods, it was homemade by Maine Pie Company, and about 37 grams of carbs per serving. Wales got the bulk of the pie. I only had the equivalent of two slices of it. Gave the rest of the small pie to Wales - she tried to get out of it - but I did not give her a choice in the matter.

I found it to be a little too sweet to be honest. Which is odd. My taste buds have changed. This is a good thing.

Still striving for some sort of balance with the sugar thing. Discovered that I require some carb. Also that the sensor reads the sugars a bit on the high side, and it may be lower. (I don't have finger sticks and can't get them so can't really double check.)

We did struggle a bit to find something to watch out of the millions of programs on the television set. Tried the irritating and somewhat self-conscious and as Wales put it - "flat" - "Fleischman is in Trouble" (but we disliked everyone and gave up), flirted with a second episode of "Reacher" but Wales who had enjoyed the books, found the dialogue to be lacking and it to be a bit dumb. So, finally, we landed on "Good Luck Leo Grande" with Emma Thompson...which is a two person movie, told within the space of a hotel room.

Overall, it was a good holiday, and a nice repast with a friend. With little to no health issues interfering, also a nice day weather wise. Wales was awed by the view of birds, sky and trees outside my living room window, and stated I could watch birds from here. (I figured that out during my remote from home bit. Used to do it for hours, actually.) And her family contacted her by text at various points through the day, making her feel less "estranged" from them all.

I'm thankful for this day, it was warm, cozy, and nice. And the first time I've had anyone over for Thanksgiving in over 15 years. I've gone to others homes for Thanksgiving in the past, but it was nice to have a small cozy meal with a friend here - particularly after my current health crisis, and current need to have some control over dietary issues.

Also thankful for so many other things in my life, too numerous to list, and I've often taken for granted. Yesterday, on the way to get veggies at the local fruit and vegetable stand - I passed a long line in front of the Wallgreens and Thai Restaurant, where they were giving out Thanksgiving meals to people in the neighborhood. And I thought but for the grace of god, go I.

Hoping everyone had a peaceful, warm and lovely holiday.
