Sometimes I wonder if Empathy happens when you forget about yourself for five minutes.

*Thank you to the people who did my little meme. Apparently I'm connecting with more people than I thought - also have more in common with a few folks than I thought - ie. superplin, anjeya, mave rigan, deevlish (who has the same tv tasts I do)....

*note to [livejournal.com profile] superplin - people have wars over cake and pie? Oh that's too funny, in my family - Mom prefers pies, Grandmother prefers cakes - personally I tend to like both, but people screw up pies in my opinion more than cakes, crust unedible, the filling tastes gluey or too jelled (I'm a picky pie eater), cakes on the other hand - all I need is good frosting (Duncan Hines in a can works wonders), and a nice moist cake and things are dandy. Oh for a great cheesecake? Try Juniors at Grand Central Station - get a slice of the chocolate mouse - part cheesecake, part chocolate mousse - incredibly rich, will take you three days to eat one slice. I live in Cheesecake land - or rather little Italy in Brooklyn - all the pastry shops have cheesecakes.)

TV shows - sometimes I think I watch too much, but it calms after a long day of wrestling with people. Medicates the mind. Always has to an extent.

Current favorites are Lost and Veronica Mars, which both had great episodes this week. Gilmore Girls...was once again annoying. Sort of glad next week is the season finale. An end to the pain. Getting very close to switching it off.

Watched Lost which was quite good tonight. Kate got more layers, as did
Sun. I like how some of the characters get just a shade darker as the season moves forward. My current hunch about the island is that it was a government experiment gone haywire.

Veronica Mars - better than expected.
Mystery worked. Should have figured it out, didn't because I got sidetracked trying to figure out who would cause Veronica the most pain, forgetting this is not BTVS or ATS, this is female detective noir and that genre could care less about causing the protagonist pain - in private detective noir - the protagonist often stands outside, is affected by the action, but not as emotionally as those around them - often serving as a catalyst. The structure of this episode and the season reminded me a little of Chinatown meets Nancy Drew. When I glance back over the episodes, I kick myself for not figuring it out - they almost telegraphed it to us three episodes back. Veronica's Mom or Dad as the killer? Doesn't track. No clear motive and also it would only take Veronica back to the pariah status she had in the beginning. No this ending worked - it took all the characters to a place completely opposite from the one they were in at the beginning of the season. At the beginning - Logan/Duncan - the Kanes and Echolls were on top of the world, Veronica and her dad were pariahs...at the end, it flips. My only criticism with the episode is how they dealt with Veronica's Mom, which was too quick and not clear. If you blinked you would have missed the scene in which Veronica realizes dear old Mom is still drinking.

Before I take a shower and hop in bed...continuing my getting to know you meme's...which you can do whatever you please with. They are basically designed to see how much we connect....that and I'm in an exhibitionist mood.

This bit is guilty pleasures (ie. you can read and sneer at me - although I wonder if that is really the case. Do people really think the thoughts we attribute to them? We think they are sneering at what we wear, look, act - but in reality, maybe all they are doing is thinking, gee, I wonder where she got those shoes and would they fit me and damn, why did I forget to bring my cell phone today?)

*Guilty pleasure is something that embarrasses you to share with others or ie. you think people judge you on. (Granted some of these you already know about...
but what the hey)

1. TV shows (okay TV itself is a guilty pleasure, I admit it, but bear with me)
Name one TV show that is a guilty pleasure.

General Hospital
(also hard have a few, but that one's the most guilty)

2. Name a book or author that is a guilty pleasure

Elizabeth Peter's Vicky Bliss Mysteries (don't like any of her other ones, just those, which I've read three times)

3. Name a movie?

Hard one - have so many.

LadyHawk (which someone did actually sneer at me for.)Another was - Pretty in Pink and I've Got Mail ,

4. Something else....Name two things that are guilty pleasures, you didn't advertise, or tell others about:

*I'm A Closet Comic Book Geek: Comic books - X'Men comics up until 2001, were guilty pleasures. I collected every single one, obsessively. I'd go cold turkey for three years, then wham, have to backtrack to catch up. Got the addiction in College, Freshman Year, 1985 - the year they resurrected Jean Grey. A friend had a box of X'Men and some Spiderman.

I occassionally got the better quality stuff - ie. Sandman, Frank Miller's Batman Year One, Dark Knight Returns, Watchman, Alan Moore's stuff...but my heart and soul belonged to the X-men, specifically the Scott/JEan saga, and
the Storm, Wolverine, Rogue and Gambit stories. I drew, painted, etc the stuff.

BTVS in 2001 took the place of that obsession and it has not come back. Completely gone. They are all safely tucked in plastic bags in nice boxes in my parents closet in the south.

* Closet reader of Smutty Slash Fanfic - yes, I like the twisted, evil, smutty, slashy, angst ridden fanfic. ERotica. Love male slash. But am very picky - only BTVS, and Spike must be involved. Don't write it but like reading it.

Mind has drawn another blank...come up with your own categories if you want.

I really liked this week's Lost. Everyone is getting darker, I agree. Did you see the trailer for next week? Going to be very interesting I think.
I actually figured out who the killer was!! I just had a feeling it was going to be Aaron, and that it would be because of something he did on that bed that Lily knew about. I remember the scene when he kind of hit on Veronica a couple of weeks ago. I read a lot of mysteries, so maybe I'm figuring out how the plot lines go....
Guilty pleasures, movie wise: I loved Ladyhawke!!

Elizabeth Peter's Vicky Bliss Mysteries Yes, and when is she going to write a new one. I keep hearing that she's working on one and that book will tie together Sir John Smythe and the characters from the Peabody books.

The cake vs. pie issue has been declared off-limits as a topic on one forum where I hang out, because it got too contentious. Hee. ;)

Didn't she hint at that some time ago? I think she hinted that John was the grandson of Sethos, or something like that.

That's the rumor I heard but in her official newsletter she just talks about the next Peabody book.http://www.mpmbooks.com/index.html
She's not getting any younger so I wish she'd get going on the new Bliss.

I wish she'd drop the Peabody books and do the Bliss. Could never get into the Peabody. Truth is - I only read the Bliss for Sir John Smyth - who I found fascinating, maybe because you only got snippets of him.
