To post or not to post therein lies the question..
To post or not to post? Therein lies the question.
I don't really have much to say.
1. Started watching "The Witcher S2" - decided I didn't need to rewatch S1, and I would be able to follow it without any problems. (Turns out, I was right). I don't know why I'm bothering - it apparently ends with S3. On the other hand that may be a good thing. It's on permanent hiatus post S3 due to the WGA and SGA/AFTRA strikes.
The first episode of S2 is actually really good - the focus is more on Yennifer and Ciri. Apparently that was a lot of fans problems with the Witcher - it didn't have that much of Geralt in it, focused mainly on Yennifer and Ciri (and side characters) and veered heavily away from the books and video games. This wasn't an issue for me - I am mainly watching it for Yennifer and Ciri, and haven't read the books nor plan to, and have no knowledge of the video games.
That said? The writing is kind of sloppy in the first episode, and I remembered it being a touch better. Also, it is admittedly confusing in its world-building, but again I don't really care that much about world-building as long as I got interesting characters. I'm really not an anal fantasy fan - I like fantasy, but I'm not methodical about it.
2. Mother and I have come to grips with spending the holidays apart. It's really only the third time in fifty-six years. And may continue until I retire. Mother is kind of relieved because we both stressed out over the plane flights and travel issues in December. Those last two weeks of December are the worst times to travel - expense wise, weather wise, and well ...not helped by Crazy Agency procrastinating everything to the end of the year.
I did look up plane tickets - and they are either hard to come by (Delta) or wickedly expensive (Jetblue).
3. Chidi saw Oppenheimer and didn't like it, the theater apparently had the sound way too loud. He saw it in Kips Bay.
ME: I'm seeing it at Lincoln 13
Chidi: You are not.
ME: Yep.
Chidi: On 70 mmm? That's not possible.
Me: Yes, it is. Movie Buddy got tickets.
Chidi: Okay, I'm envious. How did you manage that? It's completely sold out.
Me: (IDK? Friends in high places?) I didn't get the tickets, my friend did.
Poor Wales tried to get tickets to Barbie for last weekend. But...
Wales: So I got Tickets for E and I to see Barbie on Saturday and I went to check to see what time they were on Saturday, only to discover that I accidentally purchased them for Friday - and now I'm out $45.
Why the tickets were $45 is beyond me. But okay. Something about tax being added.
I remember when movie tickets were $5-6 per person. Sometimes $4 total.
4. The Fall of X storyline - has gotten me to start buying Invinceable Iron Man comics - and I am actually enjoying them. More than some of the X-men comics. Admittedly Stark fascinates - brilliant men fascinate me. I like the brilliant male scientist/intellectual archetype. Batman interested me for the same reason. As did Doctor Strange, Cyclops, Magneto, Xavier (albeit less so - he grates on my nerves - too holier than thou vibe)...Picard, Spock.
I like smart male characters. Particular analytical/tacticians and critical thinkers. I like watching them think.
It may have a lot to do with my Dad, who was an analytical and critical thinker - my brother described him as Mr. Spock. I used to think of him as Sherlock Holmes meets Dick Van Dyke by way of Dennis the Menace's father, but Mr. Spock works too.
He didn't understand my odd tastes, although we did share quite a few. We both loved Westerns, Noir Detective Shows, Mysteries, and were intellectually curious. Oh, I miss him. Some days more than others. Mother misses him whenever she had to get gas - she hates getting gas, it took her a long time to figure it out.
Right now the art is pretty good in the comics, so is the writing. Unfortunately. I'd taken a breather for a bit - and now have to go back and figure out what they were doing. Which is why I love serials - the story builds on itself, and six issues later - that little plot point you didn't notice turns out to be gold. And hunting it down is a bit like a treasure hunt. Oh, wait, yes, this does track - cool.
Anything that provides me with a story treasure hunt - is bound to get me addicted to it. Buffy did that - without quite intending too. (I'm not convinced it's intentional on the part of the writers - so much as magically happens?) So did Farscape. And now the X-men comics are - with all these cool little bits and pieces that interconnect and reveal changes in character and story, and why the characters were doomed - due to their own fatal flaws. It's little jigsaw puzzle but with made up of character bits.
I'm not sure any of that makes sense to anyone reading this - mainly because it's how I think. And not everyone thinks like I do.
I also see stories play out in my head like movies. I honestly can visualize the whole thing - when I reading it or writing it. But I get it that not everyone sees that.
I don't really have much to say.

I hope you enjoy Oppenheimer anyway.

Now? You have to reserve seats in advance, and pay more. So, I've become a lot pickier.
I'm seeing Oppenheimer - because of Cillian Murphy, I like movies about science, it's gotten interesting reviews, my mother adored it (and we have similar taste) and I can see it in 70 mm with a like-minded friend (who has similar taste). Otherwise I'd wait for streaming, like I plan to with Barbie.

If we lived in Frankfurt I think I would go more often because they actually have arthouse theaters there and arthouse movies are generally more my thing than the big mainstream ones. We can go into Frankfurt for that but it is a bit of a pain.

I hate all the dubbing here. I’m sure the fact the Dutch have subtitles is one reason they’re better at English than Germans.
