I agree - the video isn't well...it does feel like a photo album or composited collage. I'd listened to the song without the video several times first, and I think the song does in some ways work better on its own. However the video does add an ironic almost nostalgic twinge, seeing that Lennon cannot join older versions of his comrades, and it becomes clear that McCartney has lived longer without Lennon now than he did with him.

People can be extremists when it comes to well anything really. Artistic appreciation though is a subjective thing? Sure some of it can be objectively analyzed or critiqued - but a lot of it is just a matter of subjective taste?

There's very few musicians that I would say truly changed the art form or were "lightening in a bottle" on multiple levels. The Beatles to a degree did - but they were limited in their own way, and all too human. I do grow weary of them after a bit, and have to listen to someone else. But this is true of pretty much everyone?

I think, people want to worship things, and when they fail to meet their expectations - angrily denounce them.
