I don't now much remember the animated Hobbit but I do remember thinking well of it. I liked how it depicted the Gollum backstory (if I'm not now inventing that scene). Having said that, I'm slightly leery of most screen adapations because the principal delight of The Hobbit for me is the writing rather than the story.
I'm not much of a fan of the Jackson adaptations: not only do they drag but choices like the mid-battle banter shatter any suspension of disbelief. Still, I'm sure I'll rewatch them someday.
