Yeah. I feel guilty for admiring these people, and envying their success only to find how they've done monstrous things that I can't even imagine or understand doing, if that makes any sense? Oh totally. The Harry Potter fandom has struggled with this for years now, although in a different way.
But I didn't see the Gaiman or Palmer stuff at all. I was only ever tangentially aware of Palmer, but I know that she was always a very divisive figure. There are people who stopped following her years ago because of stuff she has said or done (nothing like what she is now accused of doing), but this just adds a whole other layer.
About Gaiman, then it's so sad because he genuinely seemed so... genuine. I followed his Tumblr, and he was very engaged with his fans. Very friendly, very fair, sort of what you wished every creator was. I have also listened to several of his interviews/talks, and he was smart and insightful etc. It's such a shame. And I am sorry that it took so long for any of the badness to come out.
Maybe all writers should just be hermits and never engage with the fans. :(
