ATTENTION : April 2nd ATPO MEET PEOPLE - PLEASE READ THIS

I have checked with Candle 79 and here's the situation. For 12 or more people they have to have a price fix menu. The price is $40 per person ($35 plus $5 for place reservation). This does NOT include drinks. And the menu items are pre-selected. It is a 3 course meal - appetizer, entree and desert.

The food possibilites are:

Mixed green salade, entappas(?) - for appetizer
Waffles and mushroom style crepe or tofu scramble and rissotto for entree ( I get to set three. One will have to be gluten-free or I can't eat anything).
chocolate mousse tower or sweet potatoe tart for desert. (two options here)

Please advise if this works for you. If not, tell me and I'll try to check with other places in the area or we can cancel entirely.

I need to know before March 30th. If I do not cancel before then, my credit card will be charged.

Thank you.

You can cross-post this entry on ATPO board if necessary. I cannot go there from work since it is not a permitted site.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to come if this is where we end up going, but less pricey would be better.

Okay let me try two other places I found. One may work out better for me and everyone else. It's called Peter's Gourmet Diner & Bar, 1606 1st Ave, Between 83rd and 84th Streets. And it serves Gluten-Free pancakes, eggs benedict etc and may be less pricey with a broader selection. Will check it out when I get the chance tomorrow at work. Also there's the Brooklyn Diner, which I've heard does have a few items but is expensive for a Diner. It's on West 57th Street.

I'll try them. Rissotteria my other option is far too small and limited for you guys. Third is Sambuca, an Italian place, which is a bit much for lunch/brunch I suspect.

I'll check prices at Peter's.

Sorry this isn't something I'm great at. I should have remembered Candle 79 had a price fix menu issue from the time I went there before.

Candle also has another, more casual location (Candle Café (http://candlecafe.com/), on 3rd Av. at 75th St.). They don't seem to have a brunch at all, & no prix fixe. The prices aren't all that low, but nothing like $40--entrees are $12-$18, sandwiches/burgers $9-$13. They also have a gluten-free (http://candlecafe.com/glutenfree.html) menu, w/entrees ranging from $14-$20. Might be worth checking.

BTW, 'kat, can you eat quinoa? It's not related to wheat, & the box in my kitchen cabinet says it's gluten free. Could give you some more options. Some of Candle's gluten-free menu items use it.

Both places have the same prices. The price fix menu is for a 3 COURSE MEAL not a single entree. And no you can't not do the three courses. Your stuck. Both places would insist on that - because I have to sit 17 to 20 people not just 6 or 10.
That's what happens when you want to have big group gatherings at restaurants - they become expensive.

OK. Dang. I wasn't sure the same info applied to both places. I saw a prix fixe on the "79" pages & not on the "Cafe" pages & thought it meant there was actually a difference (plus it actually says something about 79 being more upscale).

"That's what happens when you want to have big group gatherings at restaurants"

I wouldn't say that's true of all restaurants--it didn't happen when we had the meets at Two Boots & at the place in Bronxville. But yes, it'll be harder to find that in a smaller pool of restaurants. Can I help out? I may be more free to make calls during working hours when I'm working at home. I know there could be questions having to do w/gluten problems that I might not realize I'd need to ask, so if you'd like me to do some of this, let me know what they are.

No, I haven't had a relapse of my login problem...I just didn't log in. And now that I posted the above, I see it's moot anyway, so just ignore it. [emilylitellavoice]Never mind![/emilylitellavoice]
