Yes, the effect on Dan's family and his marriage are what I find most fascinating about the series, as well as the triangle of sorts between him, Katie, and Livia...or rectangle if you count Jack as well! I'm captivated not as much by his "case of the week" but by discovering how the characters got from Livia's "death" 9 years ago to where they are today.
