Oh they didn't have to convince Jackson to take the role of Fury. From what I heard, when the artist of Ultimates designed Fury, he asked Jackson if they could use his likeness. SLJ apparantly said yes, on the condition that he got to play Fury, if ever made it in one of the movies.
