The broad political interpretation I took out of it wasn't the writer's strike, but the Bush Administration and the Military/Industrial Complex (Capt. Hammer), the various terrorist groups that are attacking us, or just letting us think that they will (Dr. Horrible) and the innocent bystanders that are killed because they're both psychotic in different but equally deadly ways.
I suppose my reaction to a lot of Dr. Horrible reviews out there is that ordinary boring people just trying to live their lives out without being fucked with (Penny) are "dull", so it's not a big deal when they get killed. We've seen it before, so it's "ho-hum".
I tend to feel it is, being a rather dull, ordinary person myself.
