We often know what the writer thinks about her/his work even before we've seen the work, too - spoilerish interviews and whatnot. So, absolutely, the writer's intent is ever more present.

I don't think that makes it any more or less valid, but it's definitely more a part of the experience, almost inescapable unless we're never to go on the internet or read another interview.
