I'm guessing he did do it on purpose. Because...it is so obvious in some places. I mean can Angel be any more stupid? He's taking advice from a talking dog, and listening to Whistler, again! Plus..in the Riley one-shot, they go out of their way to emphasize why Riley is such a cool guy and Angel is such a doofus. It's not even subtle any more. Actually Twilight has not been the most subtle villain.
