Well, I wasn't as annoyed by the episode as you, I just found it a bit blah.
I was thinking though of ways to fix Nina's character 'cause what else am I going to do at work? First of all why was a woman who looked to be in her late 20's/early 30's in art school and living with her sister? (she was also the neatest art student I've ever seen - I've lived with a couple and they're messy). And why was she so willing to give up and be an entree?
The writers could have (and still could if she comes back) play up the Angel parallels by making Nina more of a Liam-type character looking to reform. Maybe she was coming off a drug/drinking problem and art school and living with family was her way of trying to regain control of her life. It also would have given more of a charge to her scenes with her sister - if Nina's burned her before she's going to be even more wary and pissed off. In the end Nina could have decided she's already blown her chance at fixing her life and so is willing to accept death by dinner as a good way out. Nina's decision to not tell her family what had happened to her becomes more poignant since she would be facing their disappointment at what looks to be her backsliding. All of this could have been done simply by changing a few of her lines, and to me at least would have made her gobs more interesting and definitely more attractive to Angel.
Rambly, pointless and not terribly original I know, but I have been thinking about it since Nina seemed so un-ME in her presentation. Ah well. I am so looking forward to next week!
