I don't know...The NY Times reviewer certainly loved it. It's considered one of the best new shows of the season by practically everyone...and to be fair, the sitcoms that have taken off (outside of the Big Bang Theory) have left me cold (I actually find the dramas funnier). Unbreakable Kimmie Schmitdt, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Modern Family, Silicon Valley, and VEEP - I couldn't make it more than one or two episodes, in some cases no more than twenty minutes. I just found the characters to be grating, other people, however loved them. (shrugs).

That said... I agree with you. It lacks the charm of Pushing Daisies or Wonderfalls. Both of which had likable lead characters that I actually cared about. I didn't care what happened to anyone in The Good Place. Also, the surreal nature of Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls was I felt a bit more innovative and unpredictable. I was curious. Not that I was necessarily in love with either show or that surprised they got cancelled...but I liked them better than The Good Place, but then I also liked them better than Kimmie Schmidt, 30 Rock, Parks, The Office, etc...so...

Like I said above, I'm not the best judge of sitcoms. I tend to have a really dry sense of humor. Sitcoms to me feel like they are saying: "hey, here's the joke! No really - see, a joke! Did you get the joke? No, we'll do it again and put in a laugh track." And I'm like, uh, yeah, sort of saw the joke coming a mile away, why don't you work on building the characters and story and let it evolve naturally from there?
