That was pretty much what motivated me to say Hasta La Vista. A lot of people don't get it. They think it's that the government can read the content or privacy bits. No, it's that I don't want people censoring me or controlling what I choose to post or anyone else does.
Also the US Constitution protects free speech and privacy under the First Amendment. Each time the government has tried to circumvent that -- someone has sued and they backed off. Apple got them to back off. So did Twitter recently, when they tried to unmask and shut down a twitter user. We don't have that level of protection under Russian Law. A lot of folks on LJ don't understand that - they don't know the difference between the laws. My Russian co-worker doesn't. I told him something today that blew his mind, which was in the US, Constitutional Law trumps (forgive the pun) Contract Law.
