You're comparing pounds to dollars. EU and the pound is higher than the dollar right now. For Europeans, NY is cheap. Which is why prices are skyrocketing - you come over here and buy things we can't afford. The French Tech came over and bought up my old neighborhood and the prices sky-rocketed.
When I visited Britain in the 80s, the dollar was high and the pound was low. So I could get Peter Gaberiel tickets for 14 bucks, cheap. While in US they would have $150.
