1. Hmmm..Entertainment News, via EW, none of which was in the EW mag. It was just lots of articles about the Oscars and a few reviews. Also, I don't know about anyone else -- but I'm losing track of all of the tv shows popping up. I missed The Alienist premiere -- mainly because no one told me when it was on, including TV Guide. And it's really hard for me to get enthused about anything focusing on serial killers.
Anyhow...as I was saying, EW news:
* Surprise, surprise, Joss Whedon Exits Batgirl -- while this in reality probably doesn't come as much of a surprise to anyone...it's interesting why he exited it. He couldn't come up with a script. Not exactly shocking, he hasn't been able to write a good female superhero script since well, Buffy S7. And whether that was all that good or not, depends largely on your perspective. (I'm sorry, I tried to read his Wonder Woman script, I truly did, but it was definitely not for me.)
Considering this comes on the heels of not one but two huge superhero blockbuster cinematic disappointments that he was involved in, and the scandal regarding his ex-wife's allegations, resulting in the shut-down of Whedonesque, which all occurred just before the MeToo# Movement took off...plus his subsequent disappearance from social media. It's not surprising. I was sort of expecting it to be honest. I'm just surprised it took this long. Maybe they were waiting to see what happened with Justice League?
From the two people I personally know who saw Justice League -- it's actually a good movie. But until I see it myself, I really can't tell you what I think of it.
It's all so odd. Whedon is about my age. A few years back, I was envious of him. He seemed to have the world by a string -- doing what he loved, lots of creative balls in the air, a great partner, a wonderful house, and vacations at a family villa in Italy. But alas...goes to show you, people put on great performances, but we don't always see the rot behind the makeup.
* The Expanse S3 - Finally has an air date -- Wednesday April 11. Which means I have about a month to finish watching S2.
I stopped after the series aired the ending that had appeared in the first novel - Levianthan Wakes.
(ie. In other words I'm 7 episodes behind.)
* Netflix's Lost in Space Reboot on April 13 -- I'm admittedly curious. This was one of my best friend's favorite television shows, when we were about 9 or 10 years of age, living in West Chester PA. Her name was Debbie Dipeso. I have no fear sharing that name. I haven't seen her since I was well 12, no wait, I did see her briefly at 17. As far as I know, she could be dead, married with lots of kids, homeless, in a great career, I can't bloody find her on the internet. So I'm thinking married with a new name?
Anyhow, she was into science fiction horror (specifically horror), in the 1970s. The scarier, the better. Her favorite shows? Batman, Lost in Space, Dark Shadows, Night Gallery, The Japanese Horror Film marathons (she adored Godzilla - we saw every Godzilla film known to man), Star Trek, Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Space 1999 (which I avoided when I could, it scared the shit out of me when I was 9), Doctor Who, the movie King Kong. If it was a horror flick -- she was into it. I liked sci-fi well enough, just not necessarily some of the monsters.
So, am admittedly curious what a reboot of Lost in Space would look like.

Except like most...all I could remember was da da da da..."down the barrel of a gun". Stupid Gun Debate. I blame it. Since it was plaguing me, it can now plague you too.

Speaking of Guns, a co-worker shared with me today what Japan did. How Japan Has Almost Completely Eliminated Gun Deaths.
Why can't we do that? It's not like guns are addictive or anything, right? I mean honestly, if you could save a million lives tomorrow by agreeing to do this -- if there was a 1 in 10 possibility of it? Wouldn't you? Particularly if it's something you never use. I mean seriously.
3. Someday when I get around to it, I may write a meta on The Black Panther, but not sure there's much point -- considering every critic on the planet has already done so. Also my muse woke up and all I've been doing in my free time is writing. Written over 100 pages so far in the last two weeks. Averaging about twenty a day. Write on the subway, on the train, at home, at lunch for about five-ten minutes when I can. Also extremely busy at work. Stupid muse has bad timing. Why it can't do this when I'm bored, or on vacation, no clue.

The fact that he's announcing now that he's leaving DC might very well have to do with the #MeToo movement given that it's a female centered film and they may prefer to have a woman helm that. Or it might have been a temporary contract regardless and he may have left at year's end and it's only now being made public. It'll be interesting to hear where he goes from here. DC supposedly has a lot of stuff they're planning to pursue but they may be reconsidering in light of both how their properties have performed as well as what Marvel's been succeeding with.
The other thing is that I follow Joss' twitter and while he did go off it for a while post-Ultron he's been tweeting steadily ever since early 2016. I don't know if he was active elsewhere before because that's all I follow.
Funny you should bring up The Alienist. I did see the premiere but then it vanished from our DVR -- I didn't notice for a few weeks and then realized I didn't really care. It was pretty grim and like you I have limited patience with serial killer stories.
Good news about The Expanse. And while I was no fan of the original Lost in Space, it seems to me a property ripe for a good reboot. So I'm also curious and planning to check it out.

What I know about the Justice League is that Zack Snyder's son or daughter committed suicide while he was working on it. This threw the family into a whirlpool. He pulled out of League, and Whedon took over. That was the original story. But, Snyder did not do that well with Batman vs. Superman, and while he was overseeing Wonder Woman, he pulled back a bit from that -- do to the personal issues.
Justice League made 228 Million for its entire domestic run. Considering it was budgeted at around 200 Million, that's not great. It was, according to my friends, a good movie actually but due to all the back story, got bad press from a lot of the critics. Also wedding Whedon and Snyder was an odd mix -- according to the critics, although my friends liked it. (I go by them, since their comic book fans, and the critics really aren't -- so don't have the same level of appreciation.)
Age of Ultron -- didn't do that well from Hollywood's perspective. And Whedon got a lot of flack, he pulled out of Marvel as a result. DC grabbed him. Justice League didn't do as well as expected, and around the same time - was the flack about his wife and the flack over how horrible his Wonder Woman script was -- it was not well-received by his fandom. And his fansite shutdown. Twitter continued...but barely.
Curious to see if he has anything else coming up...but I'm admittedly less than enthused. I didn't like his last few movies that much, or pretty much everything post Angel. The comics he co-wrote were disappointing -- the X-men run wasn't bad, but the Buffy comics and Runaways...did not work for me. And I despised his Wonder Woman script. And from what I've seen of the fandom? They appear to agree with me. (They don't always. Mileage varying and all that.)
No, he's been in a downward spiral for a while now and I can't help but think he got a bit caught in the MeToo# undertow along with Ben Affleck,Casey Affleck, Jeremy Piven, James Franco, and a few others. Not necessarily undeservedly.
I noticed he'd also gotten in a butt-load of trouble on twitter prior to the whole bit that came out with his ex-wife, for making rather crude and sexist remarks in regards to Ivanka Trump and Nicole Kidman. You have to be careful with social media -- snark doesn't often come off well. I've found that out the hard way myself from time to time, but I'm not a Joss Whedon. People don't care what I say. (LOL!)

The Netflix reboot of Lost in Space looks promising. I agree with you, I didn't like the original series either. If it weren't for best friend, I wouldn't have watched. I preferred The Monkeys at that time, and Twilight Zone.

Yeah, The Monkees was my favorite television series as a kid. I was watching it in reruns after school and on Saturday mornings. I didn't see any television at night, since I lived on the East Coast at that point and bedtime was 8:30 PM. (On the east coast, prime time programming doesn't begin until 8 PM. So we only got to see Happy Days or anything that was half-an-hour.
But I did watch television at friends houses on sleep-overs, or after school in the afternoons -- usually at friend's houses. I actually watched more at my friends' houses than at home.
We did watch the Saturday movie and often shows on Sundays, but my parents controlled the programming choices for the most part back then.
This was in the mid-1970s.
