Eh, music meme...it's probably worth mentioning that my diverse and eclectic taste in music rivals my taste in books, film and television. I'm not as selective as most people. I pretty much like everyone with few exceptions. Which means when I discuss music with folks, I decide to let them tell me what they like and I nod along. I don't remember bands or songs well, until I hear it. Also impossible questions for me to answer are: what is your favorite movie? (really, depends on the time of day and my mood), what is your favorite song? (about 3000 and counting), what is your favorite television show (too many to list). What is your favorite book? (too many to list and depends on the time of day and my mood and really I couldn't possibly tell you and how dare you make me limit it to one) What is your favorite genre? (all of them, and it again depends on my mood, the decade, etc. In the 1990s, I was swinging towards mystery and horror, in the 1980s, literary, in the early 00s fantasy and sci-fi, in the mid-oos or now, romance. It shifts like the wind. I don't understand people who just favor one. It would be like saying that you only like vanilla ice cream. Really? Look at what you are missing out on.)
a. Rolling Stones or The Beatles? Depends on the day of the week, at the moment The Stones. That could change tomorrow. I'm just tired of Paul McCartney at the moment, I want a little raw Mick. (I posted this on FB and got two interesting answers. One said that they liked the Beatles until their sexual awakening, then it was the Stones, another said they preferred the Stones and never got The Beatles.)
b. Heart or Queen? -- Eh, at the moment Heart, mainly girl band, and it's my mood.
c. Nirvana or Coldplay? - It may be a mood thing, but I don't like Nirvana. It's among the rare bands that I do not like. I find them entitled and whiny. I've listened to them -- Kurt Cobain can't sing, he sounds like Bob Dylan with laryngitis. Also I don't like his songs. I've never understood the appeal of Nirvana. But Coldplay is beautiful and lyrical.(I have both)
d. Prince or Michael Jackson? -- Prince. I'm sorry, just Prince. Like his songs better, more poetry and interesting range. Also, apparently I swing more towards non-mainstream, non-pop songs, that are subversive and dirty.
e. The Who or Pink Floyd? -- Depends on my mood. Right now swinging towards The Who, who were more storytellers, Floyd is more into raw sound.
f. The Eagles or ABBA -- I love both, but right now into the Eagles, I think. Although listening to Winner Takes it All followed by Desperado was amazing. Eagles had some poetic ballads going for them, ABBA goes a bit over the top.
g. Lady Gaga or Madonna? -- both are performance artists, but Gaga has more range and versatility, also raw talent. Madonna just wants attention. I like Madonna, but after listening to both back to back, Gaga is just more interesting and appeals to me more.
H. Fleetwood Mack or Wings? Fleetwood Mac -- both are 1970s/80s bands. Wings did a few good hits here and there, but Mack's song album is richer, I think, and grungier.
i. Leonard Cohen or Paul Simon? Leonard Cohen -- better song stylist. Simon is awfully whiny at times. While Cohen just...melts my heart.
j. David Bowie or Bob Dylan? -- Bowie. Hands down. I even saw both art exhibits -- Bowies and Dylan's, skip Dylan and go to Bowie. Bowie was good at everything and could play multiple instruments, Dylan not so much. Also Bowie can sing, Dylan, I'm sorry, cannot sing. Song wise? It's a toss-up. Bowie also can act, draw, and design sets. Dylan can only write music and play guitare.
(I am not a fan of Bob Dylan, I love his songs --- but prefer them when someone else sings them.)
Me: Madonna or Lady Gaga
Social Media: Aretha Franklin.
Me: Not an option.
Social Media: Kinda of the point.
Me (headdesk): Why do I bother with social media? Why?
Me on FB: Beatles or the Stones
FB poster: Ramones.
