1. Co-Worker: I was watching Shark Week, and Shaq O'Neill was hosting inside a cage with all these sharks swimming around him, and a baby shark got inside and I was highly amused.
Me: Hmmm..now if they put the current President of the US inside a shark tank, I might actually watch.

You know the world has gone insane or possibly you have, when you think it would be great fun to watch the elected leader of your country be eaten alive by sharks on television like some evil James Bond villain.

2. Hee, Peter Rosenthal skewers film critics with his review of Mamma Mia for The Onion.

He's not wrong. I mean really? Skewering pop culture or art is a waste of time. Of course it helps that I happen to love Mamma Mia. It's fun. The songs are danceable -- but then I happen to love dance music and Swedish pop songs.

Also, I've a weakness for Stella Asgard, Colin Firth, Pierce Bronsnan, Julie Harris, and Christine Baranski hamming it up.

I may pull out his review and thrust it at anyone who poops on my favs.

3. Okay...apparently everyone is doing a streaming service now..

Facebook, yes, FACEBOOK is doing a streaming channel and has new television shows. Next, Twitter and Pininterest and Tumblr will be doing one. I feel like we've officially entered the world of Ray Bradbury and Harlan Ellison and Adolus Huxley...

So to date in the US, we have the five or six broadcast channels, about a 1000 cable channels, about ten premium subscription channels, and over 700 and some streaming channels. So in the US we have over 520 scripted prime time television series (that's not including the reality shows, daytime dramas, news, game shows, and non-scripted talent. If we include that we're well over 1000.)

And yet, I find I'm watching less and less of it. I watched more when we didn't have all these distribution channels. I can't find stuff. I forget what is on. I have troubles keeping track of what is on. I lose interest. And I find it hard to care to when they cancel things, because I think, yeah, well, something will replace, besides...less television shows to keep track of.

Skewering pop culture or art is a waste of time.

Probably true. If you want to see it, a stuffy critic is probably not the one to change your mind on that kind of thing.

Incidentally, I think you mean Julie Walters. Julie Harris was one of my all-time favorite actresses, but she's been gone for several years now.

I find I'm watching less and less of it.

Hey, that's my line! ;o)

I completely agree. The more choice I have, the less I want it.

Thanks for that Onion link, I enjoyed it! Even though I wasn't very taken by the first movie, when Mike and I saw the trailer before Ant Man this month that's exactly what I said to him -- "That looks like fun."

If we include that we're well over 1000.

I'm reminded of Joss Whedon's tweet yesterday about Alexis Denisof finally getting an Emmy nomination -- for a short-form web series. Given how many there are, the phrase "It's an honor just to be nominated" was never truer.

I can't find stuff. I forget what is on. I have troubles keeping track of what is on. I lose interest. And I find it hard to care to when they cancel things, because I think, yeah, well, something will replace

I would cancel our cable subscription if it weren't for Mike. But I confess I don't know what I'd do without a DVR because I couldn't even tell you everything it's subscribed to, or when and on what channel it airs. And yes, while there are things I'm sorry to lose, these days there really is something else appearing every minute so it's a rare show I can mourn much.
