Well, on my FB everyone uses their real name and has photos of themselves to back it up. I don't use it for fandom stuff. It's to stay in contact with extended family members, friends I've met online, close friends who have moved far away, former college friends, church members, and various activities and events.
I have 126 friends. I joined in 2008 during the last election to get election news. I block out the political stuff for the most part. If someone irritates me? I unfollow them or snooze them for a bit. Sometimes I just give up and unfollow completely. (Unlike DW, you can't tell when people stop following you as easily.)
It's great for posting photos. DW sucks for posting photos. And it works well as means to set up meetups with people or send news to various family members all at once. I tend to stay away from topics that raise the blood pressure.
I'm not surprised a lot of fandom moved elsewhere...a lot of them were younger, and they wanted to do things that LJ and DW didn't quite help with -- also not as broad an audience.
