Affordable "overnight parking"? There's not affordable parking period -- well except in the area I live. You can park for free on the streets, you just have to get there before someone else does and be really good at parallel parking. (I live in a more residential zone, where people have their own garage and there's free parking on the sides of all the streets. Also trees, grass, and flowers...oh my. I don't live in the land of skyscrapers. Basically I've gone about as far as I can, and still not require a car.)
And I wouldn't get it in NYC. I don't like being in a cab, uber or lyft in NYC, although I can deal with it. I'd get it after I move out of NYC. It would make it possible for me to leave the city.
NYC is the only place in the world, where you really don't have to drive at all -- and can be totally independent and get just about anywhere.
