Yeah, the Belgian's are sort of secret. My paternal great grandmother (grandfather's mother) was 100% Belgian. And her story was right out of a historical romance novel -- she was forced by her family to leave, because she was in love with someone they didn't want her to marry, so they sent her to the NY. In Philadelphia, she worked for a family as a dressmaker, and married their son, who romanced her, then died of consumption (my great grandfather -- who was Welsh and whose grandfather came from Wales escaping debtors prison and was put in prison again for manslaughter). His family was rich, hers wasn't. They married, but his family disowned them when they did. He dies. Her One True Love, comes over from Belgium and they marry...and have more kids. The father my grandfather knew was her second husband and one true love/first love from Belgium.
Anywho Walloon reminds me a little of Welsh, although it's one of the few ancient languages that has survived...sort of. I wonder if Walloon is connected in anyway to the other ancient Celtic languages that existed prior to Roman times and pre-Norman/Saxon. Before the Romans changed half the languages.
There's also French-Belgium and Flemish-Belgium, my ancestery -- is apparently French-Belgium. My great grandmother spoke French as her first language. Or so I'm told, I'm wondering if she also spoke Walloon.
