No, it's part of the Thursday Next Series -- Thursday is the main character in the series. The Eyre Affair is the first book in it. The series takes place in a world in which fictional characters are real. And Thursday Next is the detective. I tried one and couldn't get through it. That type of humor doesn't work for me.
