1. Watched the CMA Awards Wednesday Night and Tonight -- for the performances. I don't care who wins. (Really does anyone but the people nominated for these things? And does anyone but the people who win -- remember who won? We live in a strange society that is overpopulated with 2.awards shows.) Anyhow, the performance that is sticking in my head is Reba McIntyre of all people and it is this song that won't leave it...
Weird song. It's not quite feminist, yet at the same time it is feminist. Can't quite decide if I'm disturbed by it or moved by it. Country Music and Rap/Hip-Hop have this in common -- half the time I can't decide if I'm incredibly pissed off/offended by a song or insanely moved the song.
2. Much Younger Male Cousin on FACEBOOK annoyed me, making me feel sorry for my Aunt and Uncle. His statement? "I've graduated from arse-hole to cunt".
His friend's Response? "Isn't your mother on FB?"
ME: And various other assorted family members.
Sigh. It's been that sort of week, though.
3. Cat Story that my brother told my mother and she passed on to me.
Piper (one of my brother's two large long-haired cats) disappeared. My brother hunted everywhere for Piper. Put up signs, checked with all the neighbors. (And he has reason to worry -- since there are predators out there that kill cats, although his cats are big enough to fend for themselves. They are about the size of a small dog.)
Anyhow, he was dreading telling his daughter that the cat was gone. Piper is their favorite and about 14 years old, a year younger than his daughter. In short the equivalent of a very friendly sibling. On the way to pick his daughter up from school, his wife texted him that Piper was back.
When he got home, he asked where Piper was.
Sisterinlaw: Go downstairs and ask him.
Brother goes downstairs to their bedroom and finds Piper sitting on the bed.
Brother: Piper? Where were you?
Piper: Meow. (Then he leads my brother into his bathroom, and behind it, scratches on a door. My brother opens the door. And Piper scratches on the wall. Then Piper looks up at my brother and indicates the door, and my brother steps out of its way and lets Piper move past him.)
Sisterinlaw: Yeah that's what he told me too.
Me: So he was stuck behind the wall in the bathroom?
Mother: No, he was stuck somewhere and someone finally let him out after he scratched and called.
4. My crazy work place is trying to drive me batty by degrees. Or to drink and chocolate. I did make through the week without buying or eating sweets at work. Go me. And did exercises three times this week. Meditated for ten minutes every day. This helped.
Small goals.
5. Was enjoying the latest romance novel...until I hit a bit of a snag in the form of the hero. Who is a hypocritical self-righteous chauvinistic ass. The heroine is quite likable (except for the fact that she's lusting after the hero), she's an artist and a good cartoonist. But I want to strangle the hero for being an ass, and the heroine, for being attracted to the asshole hero. There's a scene in which he not only insults her, but gropes her, and instead of smacking him, she quivers with lust. (Really?)
Went online to read reviews...and it turns out I'm not alone in this sentiment, 75% of the readers writing reviews wanted to strangle them too.
Yet, I am still reading thing. Why? I want to know if he ever finds out how he wronged the heroine and gets his come-up-ance. (From the reviews -- it doesn't appear that he does, or not to their satisfaction. Can't quite tell which. Someone needs to write a much more spoilery review -- so I can decide if it is worth the effort of continuing. But alas, no, they are all annoyingly vague.) As a result, I am doing a lot of skimming. (The sex scenes don't work for me at all -- I'm rather put-off by them, mainly because the hero is an ass.)
I have not enjoyed the last several books I've read. Beginning to wonder if I should switch genres? (Or stop trusting SmartBitches recommendations?) Also, it does stand to reason that a book entitled "The Harlot Countess" is going to be problematic in places, doesn't it?
6. Mother told me that a woman that my brother works with at the school board (he joined the board of trustees of the school that his daughter once attended) used to baby sit for the Yovanovitch, who testified at today's impeachment hearings. My brother's colleague is apparently very close to the former ambassador to the Ukraine and her family. (Seriously my brother has too many acquaintances who are associated with famous people or are famous people for his own good.)
Just a few days before Marie L. Yovanovitch, former United States ambassador to Ukraine had to testify, her mother suffered a severe stroke and died. They had the funeral two days ago, apparently. Also she's had a 30 year career destroyed by the Doofus.
My heart went out to her. Can you imagine? Your mother suffers and dies from a stroke just a few days before you have to testify in a nation-wide televised hearing in front of Congress. All the while you are attacked and demeaned on twitter by your former bully of a boss and his cronies for having the courage to stand up to him?
This is America.
Although...Bloomberg is Targeting the Doofus with Full-Blown Anti-Doofus Digital Ads
Fox News Anchors Attacked Trump Over Tweets .
I don't know how this is going to end. Just that it is a mess. And ironically? All over Joe Biden, who most likely will drop out of the race by March.
Also, sigh, six degrees of separation.

I suspect Trump is a lot more afraid of NY investigators getting their hands on his tax returns than the investigation of his personal dealings with Ukraine. His Republican pals might stick by him unless his tax returns show what everyone suspects: that he occasionally skated along on the wrong side of the law in a lot of ways.

If he gets impeached or voted out, he's getting indicted. And who will pardon him? Also you can't pardon someone on State violations only Federal. The Office of President does protect you will in office from State, but not when you are out of office.
They really need to stop trying to get dirt on political opponents, particularly political opponents who are high in the polls by a 20% margin a full 18-20 months prior to the election and six months prior to any of the primaries.

Trump needs to cut a deal somewhere.
If he goes all in to fight impeachment and the NYS lawsuits--and he loses--he stands to go to jail for a long, long time.
**********
We all know the House will vote to impeach. That'll kick it to the Senate, where the Republicans will never vote him out of office....
UNLESS the vote is secret ballot. If Mitt Romney and the anti-Trump Republicans can secure the secret ballot, then it's up for grabs, and Trump is on the brink. Without having to worry about pissing of their pro-Trump constituencies, the Republican Senate could vote however they want. "Expulsion" may very well have the votes already.
Once out of office, he no longer has the protection of the presidency, and he moves in next to Bernie Madoff.
IF the secret ballot is implemented, I think he will cut a deal to do what he does best: survive. He'll resign the presidency, citing... some bullshit excuse, pay a large, but manageable tax fine, and then go on to create his "news" network.
Of course, he could battle through all of this and come out untouched. He's done it before.

I've seen lots of theories. Yours is similar to my mother's, she's in South Carolina and deals with far-right conservatives a lot. But, I've also been reading the NY Times Analysis and they see it a little differently. And I have a co-worker who predicted Trump's election in 2015, and up until recently, agreed with you, but now, he's convinced that Trump will end up in prison the moment he leaves the presidency. The FBI will arrest him for treason and his family will lose everything, or be indicted with him. Co-worker is a former prosecuting/defense attorney, and has a background in Constitutional Law. He was up for a judgeship once. Co-worker up until last week, was convinced Trump wouldn't be impeached, now he's changed his mind.
A couple of things happened that are important shifts:
1. Trump settled the Foundation Court Case for $2 M and admitted that they committed fraud.
2. Trump changed his state citizenship to Florida (he was a born and bred New Yorker who up until a year ago, swore never to leave)
3. Roger Stone -- Trump's head campaign advisor was convicted on all 10 charges for Treason for the Russian Tampering
4. The country sided with Yovanisch and blasted Trump...even Fox News did.
And we're no where near done. There's three next week -- Tuesday, Wed, and Thursday. And another person is defying Trump's orders not to testify next week. Also, all they have to do is get a federal court to order Bolton to testify. If I were Biden and his kid, I'd refuse testify for the Republicans unless a court ordered it or everyone Trump was keeping from testifying did it first.
We're still in the first half of the football game. You know as well as I, that a lot can happen between now and the end. And hey, don't forget Watergate.
Also the polling is showing that things are shifting in the country. Peter King has announced he won't run for re-election. And Virigina turned blue.
Also, I've friends and family members who have managed to flip various red counties blue by registering weekenders and new younger residents as democrats. There are areas of Arizona, Kansas, Up State New York that never voted Democrat that are now.
The suburban areas are no longer Republican. The rural areas are...but that is gradually changing.
