Not sure if you are commenting on Nip/Tuck or The 4400 here. But would agree on both. Nip/Tuck is 13 episodes and almost over for the Season - 4400 is over. The problem with the limited series is one is always left wanting more - which may be the point.

In some respects the 13-9 episode series is easier for the networks, producers, writers, etc to create.
It is less expensive than 22 episode series. You aren't as rushed. There's not as much pressure to crank out each episode. And as a result, more often than not, you end up with a better more cohesive work than you would have with 22. Also a work more likely to get picked up for another run. Plue the added bonus of no breaks in your story which Angel and Buffy often had. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if WB/Fox had asked Whedon or Minear to do Firefly, Wonderfalls, or Angel as a 13 episode a year series instead of 22? Would we have
gotten another year? Would they still be around?
