Made Up Meme

Twenty Question Meme:

1. Provide a poem or quote that cheers you up when you get the February Uglies?

Resumé
By Dorothy Parker
Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren’t lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

2. If you were someone in a past life, who would it be?

Yes, there are days that I too wonder if I was Dorothy Parker in a past life. My guess, is I got all my debauchery out of the way as Dorothy, and don't need to do anything of it now? But for some reason still have a thing for NYC.

3. Name books that have NOT been adapted into films or television shows that if you could waive a magic wand they would be. And if you know, who you'd cast in them.

* The Sparrow by Maria Doria Russell

- Here's what happened to any possibility of it being adapted, per the writer, and who the writer would have cast: Maria Doria Russell's Facebook Page and commentary on the Sparrow

I'd cast Angela Basset as Doris, Zendaya as Sofia, Dev Patel as Emilio, Idris Elba as George.

The author had an all black cast in mind, by the way.

*The Chronicles of Lymond by Dorothy Dunnet - the rights got bought back in 2017, but nothing has happened with them, dang it.

Either Tom Hiddleston or Alexander Skaarsgard as Lymond, Emma Watson as Phillipa, Len Headley as Lymond's sister, Martha...drawing a blank now.

* The Vicky Bliss Mysteries by Elizabeth Peters

It would have been Kathleen Turner years ago, now I've no clue. For Sir John? It would have James Marsters years ago. Now? Eh. Tom Hiddleston.

* The Secret History by Donna Tartt no clue.

* Dragon Riders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey no clue.

*Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series.

(Weirdly, I really do NOT want to see the Kate Daniels series adapted.)

4. Are you a meta or fanfic person?

Meta. Yes, I've read and written fanfic. But I swing towards analysis of television shows more than fic, for some reason. I think I prefer to analyze what the original writer intended, and what I thought about it -- and what others did, then see other's attempt to continue it? I've never been into role playing games. And I've noticed that folks who write fanfic seem to really like RPG. I also don't like improve - and I've notice people who like RPG love improve and dressing up as their favorite character, which is something that doesn't work for me.

There may not be a connection between the two. Don't know.

Just that fanfic always leaves me wanting somehow. I find meta more satisfying. Possibly a side-effect of being an English Lit major in college? Who took film studies courses?

5. What do you think about Awards shows like the Oscars? Grammys? Emmys? Tonys? etc?

Too many of them for one thing. And I don't think they are all that relevant any longer. It's become kind of meaningless now that we have too much content and not enough judges or voters. Also the content is more diversified than the people actually judging it. I've stopped watching them -- except for the variety show aspect, and even that has lost its appeal. I think eventually they'll just fade away.

6. Name a television series that you wouldn't mind being rebooted?

Firefly.

7. How'd you reboot it?

I'd flip the genders. Mal would be female, Zoe would be male, etc.

8. Name a Television series that you wish they'd do a reunion/continuation of or resurrect from the dead?

Angel the Series.

9. What's your favorite means of travel? Cars? Planes? Trains? Boats? Bikes? Horses? Sled Dogs?

Trains, all the way.

10. Recommend a television show, book, movie, and work of music.

*Book: The Sparrow by Maria Doria Russell. It's a science fiction novel by a cultural anthropologist.

* Television Series: The Witcher on Netflix

* Movie: Blade Runner - the original one with Harrison Ford and Rutgeur Hauer.

* Work of Music: Either David Bowie's last album - NEXT or LUNGS by Florence +The Machine

14. Favorite Vampire Story?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel the Series -- which I kind of consider part of each other or two perspectives on it.

Vicky Bliss mysteries... that sounds VERY familiar, I think I've read them?

Never heard of The Sparrow (or its author) but now I'm intrigued.

The Oscars are largely irrelevant to almost everyone in the entire United States. I'm not a fan.

How about Blake Lively?

I want to do this one. Maybe next week.
