I think you have hit the nail on the head with regards to BTVS. I love the show, and when there were plotholes and such, I just filled them right in to suit myself. I think it is the genius of the show that it can be seen and interpreted in so many different ways. Although that can lead to some heated debate, I think it is the reason we are continuing to talk about it even after the ending of the series. If everything was tied in a neat little bow, it would leave little scope for discussion. Sorry to hear about poor Oscar. I am a cat lover/owner myself. Hope it works out for the little guy and for your friend.
