Apr. 23rd, 2020 09:11 pm1. National Geographic - The uplifting tale of these tiny island foxes nearly wiped out by disaster
I don't know about you, but I needed something positive.
2. There are some entertaining bits on Twitter - if you have dark absurdist sense of humor like myself. If not? Best to scroll on by. Yes, I know, I don't find slapstick humor funny, but I find...well ..
Apparently the Doofus, unsatisfied with just egging his supporters to protest in huge groups and take hydrocholorine, is now suggesting they drink or inject themselves with disinfectant to kill the virus or expose themselves to ultraviolet light in huge quantities (even though ultraviolet light is a known carcinogen - but hey, good news, you might kill the virus, bad news? you'll definitely get cancer). So, does he want to kill his supporters and voting base? Is this his goal? I mean he does realize if all of his supporters die, he won't have any right? That's it. It's not like anyone else is listening to him. I can't quite decide sometimes if the Doofus thinks he's a late-night comedy tv show host in competition with the others for ratings, in some bizarre virtual reality simulation.

You know, I gotta say. If Trump wants to inject himself with disinfectant to kill the coronavirus, I'm not going to rush to dissuade him.

Literally just saw these two headlines in a row:
"Former Labradoodle breeder was tapped to lead U.S. pandemic task force"
&
"Trump Suggests Injecting Disinfectant, Shining UV Light Inside Patients to Kill Coronavirus."

Hello Melania! While you stay home to keep yourself & others healthy, can keep your husband occupied with puzzles & other activities so he won't keep telling people to take deadly untested drugs or to try injecting themselves with disinfectant? #BeBetter

Folks, do NOT try this at home.
Although UV-C light does kill germs, bacteria and viruses on exposed surfaces, it can also cause painful burns on the skin, can damage the cornea if observed directly, and is a known carcinogen. In short, Trump is an idiot.
I don't know. The world is insane. I just live in it. Well, assuming I survive 2020 that is. Actually when I mentioned this to my boss on March 10, he retorted, assuming we all survive 2020.
Yes, methinks that 2020 is trying to kill us.
3. Entertainment.
* Zoey's Extraordinary Play List - it's official - I despise Max. He's a self-absorbed jerk, who needs to go. Also, as a former copyright/intellectual property specialist who worked in a tech start up company, the storyline was annoying me to no end. No, you can't take code from a product that you are software-engineering to another company or division, that is in competition with your previous workplace. That's illegal. It's also considered cheating and stealing. His computer would have been sealed, and he wouldn't have been permitted to transfer any files. And no, the software code that you created is NOT yours, it's a work for hire - it belongs to the organization that paid you to work on it. Or in this case the subdivision. They would be within their rights to sue Max for taking the code, and sue the organization that stole it for copyright/patent infringement. I spent half the episode snarking at the television set in annoyance.
Whoever wrote this episode clearly knows nothing about working in a tech company or about patent/copyright law.
I wanted to shake the writers. You ruined the show, you dingbats. This is supposed to be a fun frothy show with tunes!!
Sigh. I did like the musical numbers. Also everything with her father, Simon, and Mo worked. It's the work plot and the storyline with Max that really has got to go.
Oh well, it only has two more episodes.
It's a good thing the television seasons are shorter this year - since I have 74 hours of television saved on the old DVR and have yet to get to most of it.I may delete some of it. What can I say? I want to watch cartoons and frothy things on Hulu and Disney +. I do not want to watch dark stuff saved on my DVR such as:
* Prodigal Son (not really interested in a serial killer story at the moment, can't think why?),
*Emergence (3 episodes left and I can't get myself to care),
* Sandition (ditto - I got spoiled about the ending, and lost interest as a result)
* Howards End (ditto)
* Nancy Drew (8 episodes)
* 9-1-1 (4 episodes)
* Easter Parade (movie...don't know why I taped it exactly)
* Greatest Showman...
* Assasin's Creed...(also don't quite know why I taped it - except it was before I got the Disney +/Hulu subscription)
* The Baker and the Beauty...eh
* Killing Eve (see Prodigal Son)
* Doctor Who (8 episodes - see Nancy Drew)
* Station 19 (also see 9-1-1)
* New Amsterdam ( 4 shows)
It's pathetic really. But none of the shows saved grab me right now. I don't really know why. I just can't watch medical dramas at the moment. Or for that matter anything too dark. It's very odd.
* Steven Universe
The Giant Woman and The Arcade - hmmm, Steven's voice appears to be getting deeper, either that or I'm getting used to his voice and it's no longer bugging me, and thus just my imagination. Hard to tell. Garnet got a little more character development in The Arcade, although not much explanation. She appears to have a third eye, and very sensitive eyes...also can fall into a trance when doing repetitive movements. Pearl and Amethyst got a lot more development in The Giant Woman - which I enjoyed a great deal, once I could get myself to focus on it. It was amazing.
I particularly liked the song - which was kind of fun, and unexpected. "I just want to see you turn into a Giant Woman. What can I do to see you turn into a Giant Woman, because that would be really cool" - are the lyrics.
This show is delightful in places, and unlike anything I've ever seen before. It's kind of like David Lynch watched Rainbow Brite, and decided to pitch his idea to Felicia Day, Mr. Rogers, and Joss Whedon, who were high on LSD at the time, who then pitched it to a couple of Magna artists to write and develop it.
In The Giant Woman, Steven manages to convince Amethyst and Pearl to merge into a Giant Woman, after he gets eaten by a huge bird. Inside the bird he finds the heavenly bug, which his pet goat, Steven Jr, is trying to eat. Pearl and Amethyst merge by dancing with each other. Yes, that's a brief synopsis of the plot.
I don't know about you, but I needed something positive.

Date: 2020-04-24 04:01 am (UTC)Okay, you've got my attention!
:-)
Steven Universe (upcoming)
Date: 2020-04-24 04:17 am (UTC)"Giant Woman" is the first appearance of a key aspect of the SU mythology--FUSION! Fusion will be used as a metaphor for a variety of relationships during the course of the series. (Fun fact: the voice of Opal--the Pearl/Amethyst fusion--was provided by none other than Aimee Mann. The first of a legion of singers/musicians to provide guest voices for the series.)
Upcoming:
Episode 13, "Too Many Birthdays": Steven decides to celebrate all the birthdays his caretakers have missed over the centuries, but winds up pondering his own future. Magical hijinks with serious subtext...
Episode 14, "Lars and the Cool Kids": Pretty much exactly as advertised. Lars is the anti-Steven, sour and lacking self-confidence, and his desperate attempts to break into the Beach City cool clique come off as kind of sad. (Lars' relationship with Kate Micucci's Sadie will be a huge bone of contention among SU fans.)
Episode 15, "Onion Trade": The idea that Steven is NOT the weirdest kid in Beach City is mind boggling. But Onion has always been an entertaining source of puzzlement for our hero, one that doesn't involve magic or gem powers.

All true.

Date: 2020-04-24 01:01 pm (UTC)Also, I've been having issues focusing...and Hulu has a tendency to make it difficult to see what episodes I've seen, and which are coming up next. So if my attention wanders during an episode, and it's over - Hulu jumps to the next one with little help from me.

Date: 2020-04-24 04:55 pm (UTC)Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist
Date: 2020-04-24 10:36 pm (UTC)As for Max....sigh. Yeah, he's acting out. I do feel for him a bit more than you do, because I've been there. He's held that torch for so long, but it looks like it's never gonna happen, and some resentment has leaked in. But Max, I'm sorry--Zoey doesn't owe you anything. She's going through something horrible with her Dad, and you're just making it worse.
I don't think the writers will let Max do a complete heel turn, though. He'll snap out of his self pity and be there for her when Mitch... you know.
But after all this is over, and he feels he can't stay friends because he'll never be happy holding out for something that'll never happen? Then he has to give Martha Jones' "this is me, getting out" speech. (Doctor Who, epidode 3.13, "Last of the Time Lords." YouTube it--it's great.) It would hurt like hell, but it might be better for both of them in the long run.
Let's see how it goes.
Re: Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist
Date: 2020-04-24 11:29 pm (UTC)I think Max is a user, who does nice things to make himself look good. If nothing is in it for him? He's out of there.
That storyline is not working for me. ;-)
