Well, life is slowly becoming increasingly absurd. Also aggravating.

1. This morning I watched two cable repair men with masks on figure out how to fix a cable connection in the back yard while it was kind of raining. I don't know if it will work - since it has to go across from the overhung wires to the building, with a tree next to it, also vines growing up the walls, but whatever - it's not my cable connection, so no worries.

Meanwhile, in other news, Greenwood Cemetery sent out emails warning people that it may have to close due to the fact that they are blatantly breaking the rules.

I saw it on the neighborhood page on FB first. Greenwood Cemetery is about a twenty minute walk from where I live, maybe shorter, depends on traffic. My mother suggested I try it when the lock down began, but my gut told me that everyone else would have the same idea. And while it's huge - getting there could be problematic in regards to social distancing. Turns out I was right. And a lot of people abused the privilege of visiting it. What did they do? Ah, they rode their bikes, walked their dogs, let their kids climb trees, brought picnics, and picked flowers off the graves. Yes, it's a cemetery and yes it is OBVIOUSLY a cemetery and the rules are fairly clearly posted and obvious. As a result the cemetery had to increase staff and is threatening to close its gates.

Then of course, there's the problem the Mayor and Governor are having in regards to not allowing any gatherings or events. "Can people get a permit to protest this decision?" Mayor, "No, because that's a gathering and not permitted. A gathering is defined as anything that is more than two people - which includes parties, events, funerals, protests..." They asked the Governor if he was opposed to opening the race track? He said that he can't open any attractions - people will come en mass - and he can guarantee you that Saratoga will have the biggest attendance in its history of the race track. People are antsy, they want to get out of the house and go somewhere. Hint to aliens, want to kill the human race? Come up with a deadly virus and hold an event!

So, they are struck with the problem of re-opening while social distancing at the same time. My boss reached out to me today to reassure me that they are taking me concerns and situation, along with others like me, under consideration as they begin to phase us all back into the work place. He appreciates the fact that I'm terrified of jumping on the subway again, also I don't see how we can social distance at my work place - but we go to flexible schedules. My guess is that the biometric clocks and time sheets may slowly become a thing of the past. What everyone cared about two-three months ago, they don't care that much about now. My boss is hard to talk to - mainly because he doesn't want me to say that much, and makes me a bit nervous as a result. This has been easier in a way - because most of my dealings with him have been by email. But I appreciated the fact that he reached out to me - to see if I was okay, and to reassure me about the re-opening.

2. The State of Maryland vs. the Corona Virus and the US Government (mostly the US Federal Government).

I shouldn't find this amusing but I do. As one friend stated on FB - "May 2020 has found yet another way to jump the shark." Or rather 2020 has...ah, 2020, the gift that keeps on giving.

Maryland's National Guard is defending the Coronavirus tests that they received from South Korea from US Federal Government Seizure.

Honestly, this is kind of becoming a case of The States vs. The CoronaVirus & the Federal Government. The Federal Government has managed to piss off all of the State Governors. By the way, as my mother pointed out, the Governor of Maryland is a Republican - his wife is Korean, so they were able to get 550,000 test kits from South Korea and they do not want to share them - they need them for Maryland. So they are keeping the Feds from confiscating them and distributing them to Trump's buddies. Keep in mind that the Federal Government is located in Washington, DC (District of Columbia) which is technically in the State of Maryland, and borders Virginia.

Hence my icon.

3. The sky has cleared from the morning rain. And the work week such as it was has come to a close. Crazy Workplace has advised that soon they will make antibody testing available to all employees of the agency at no cost to the employees. You can take it unless you are exhibiting symptoms of the virus. More information is forthcoming. (I foresaw this coming for quite some time now. So I may find out in a matter of weeks or months, whether I've had the thing. I don't know. I had something weird in the beginning of November-December, our entire floor did - it was this respiratory thing that had a wide range of symptoms. I have journal entries about it - in November 21- February. The coughing didn't stop until March. I got a chest X-ray in March which was clear.)

When I say NY has gone nuts with testing, I kid you not. NY has conducted 927,438 tests - more than I think anyone in the world. Like Maryland they got fed up with the CDC and Feds, and found their own - except what NY did was reach out to labs and pharmaceutical companies, and their own department of health, and began to make their own.

I went downstairs to drop off recycling and trash, briefly ran into super's wife who was sorting it with latex gloves. And I took a brief walk outside, ran into the idiot girl on the bike again - who was again riding it on the sidewalk, while there was a perfectly good bike lane nearby. I think she did it because she wanted to go in a direction that the bike lane didn't - at least that's my guess. Or she's uncertain of her ability to ride a bike. I've chosen to give her the benefit of the doubt - even though I find her behavior irritating. She wasn't wearing a mask this time either - which would be more forgivable if she was using the bike lane. But it was a good walk - with few people out and about, I had it mostly to myself. A pediatrician's office was open and receiving patient's on the block - and I remember thinking - this looks a bit small for that many people going in and out.

Mother meanwhile told me that she was cleaning her jewelry - she found this jewelry cleaner that she bought a while back - and it's like some sort of miraculous thing, she soaks the jewelry in it and the tarnish comes right off - like that (snaps fingers). She told me she had it strung across her bed and needed to get back to it.
There's several things that my mother loves that are completely lost on me:

* Jewelry
* Scarves
* Dolls
* Nicknacks or collectibles

I just don't get it. It makes me very difficult to buy things for, this I know.

It's a ridiculously nice day all of a sudden but there are storm clouds moving in again. Making me edgy or I can feel them in my head and fingers. The air is nice and crisp though and I have the window open a quarter of an inch. I kind of want to take a walk to the park, but I'm hesitant. I am considering getting up earlier tomorrow morning and attempting it.

4. Final point - I thought I'd written about this in Feb, but apparently not? I must have just conveyed it to my mother and people at work? On the 29th of February, I had a hair cut - thank god. As a result my hair is fine - still colored and not that long. I do wish I'd gotten one that keeps my hair out of my eyes, but as my Aunt K remarked that kind of happens with her too regardless of the style.

Anyhow, while at the salon, the gal next to me who was getting her hair colored, talked about how she wasn't doing much traveling. She traveled a lot for work. But American Express - whom she worked for, was starting to shut down international travel and was even scaling back on domestic travel for the time being. She said that one of her co-workers had gotten trapped in India and had to work to get flights out. And another who had come through Europe was having similar issues. I remember her stating that she was less worried about catching the virus then getting stuck somewhere. American Express - apparently was equally concerned, and sent a company wide statement back in February that it was discouraging and no longer permitting any business travel overseas, and if you had travel plans coming up - personal or otherwise, you'd have to run it by them first. This was at the end of February.
