Because it is Friday, I'm permitting myself to stay up late. Watched part of The Princess Bride - got bored, because I've seen it one too many times, it's kind of dated, and I've read the book (which is so much better, really, it is, you should read the book - I'm not just saying that). And, it may just be me, by Carey Elwes is kind of stiff in it. Heresy I know, don't tell my cousins - they worship this movie. One has named her bulldog Princess Buttercup, and the other one has named her son after the romantic lead. My brother was a tad more creative in the naming department, he named his child after a Tree, and used the Cherokee name for Butterfly and Elephant. Yes, my family is the eccentric ones - and don't quite fit with the rest of them.

Twitter is amusing me tonight.

* General Hospital Fandom, the actor who plays the nemesis (Julian) of Sonny (the mafia boss) responded to a shipper who wanted a Julian and Carly (Sonny's wife) ship - July - "So, what you're saying is. You want Julian to die at the hands of Sonny?" LOL! [Ah soap opera shippers put all other shippers to shame. Honestly, you have not witnessed shipping until you've been on a daytime soap opera fan board.)

Exactly what can the incumbent President run on? He can’t run on the economy. He can’t run on healthcare. He can’t run as a moral leader. He can’t run on bring the country together. He can’t run on leaders he put in power. He can’t run on justice. Exactly what can he run on?"

I've been kind of wondering the same thing myself. Also wondering what his supporters are smoking? Bleach?

In his eagerness to reopen the country, Trump faces the challenge of convincing Americans that it would be safe to go back to the workplace. But the past few days have demonstrated that even his own workplace may not be safe. ⁦⁦[profile] michaelcrowley"

Who here has dated a heterosexual man with the same politics as them? I love reading science fiction.

I resisted the urge to say basically all the men I dated had the same politics that I did. I'm too bloody opinionated and outspoken, and so is my family to date someone who doesn't share my religious and political views.

Who would have believed a nation could be dismantled in less than 4 years?

I didn't spend my childhood in barbed wire enclosed internment camps so I could listen to grown adults today cry oppression because they have to wear a mask at Costco.

Any talk of atheism in the Marvel Universe is absolutely insane when one of the most prominent public figures in the world is literally Thor, the God of Thunder.

Many news outlets the president calls fake had held off on reporting who the staffer was who got COVID, out of respect for concerns about privacy. The president then blurted out the name at an event this afternoon.

Some days (ok, really every day) I look at the headline and say some version of “are you serious?” (Usually with a bit more “colorful” language)

Why am I so weak for the thing where characters bicker and snipe at one another during sex? The whole “don’t you have something better to do with your mouth” line of pillow talk. IRL I’d kill a mofo with my bare hands, but in fiction?

Actually, I did - I punched a guy who would not stop sniping at me - it was 3 AM in the morning, I had class the next day, and I wanted to sleep - yet he kept criticizing in my ear like an errant fly. [It occurs to me that this may well be why I'm still single.]

OK. So this is way, way, way down on the list of problems. But I have noticed that being quarantined makes it a lot more difficult to give excuses for getting off a telephone call you don’t want to be on. “Where do you have to go?”

[I don't know my mother has become an expert - she tells me she has to go check on my father - who is literally sitting two feet away and starring at her. Or she has to grab the groceries. Or take my father for a walk to the mailbox and back.]

Oh, Joss Whedon is living with and dating a contemporary artist, Heather something or other. Found that out on Twitter. She's beautiful and does a lot of realistic self-portraits of herself nude. He also praised Neil Gaiman on adapting Princess Monoke for the screen. And doing the English translation. Which I found interesting, since I saw the premiere of that film at Lincoln Center back in the early 00s or late 1990s, and saw Neil Gaiman, Clare Danes, and someone else in person from far far away.

He's technically about my age but he looks ten years older. Interesting.

Personally I have adored Axl Rose's Twitter war with Mnuchin. Rose just owned him.
