Today, I ache. It's a rainy day and it's well into 34 days of my cycle, and no period. It's supposed to start today, but alas, has yet to. So...I'm edgy and irritable and desperately want to be comforted by something.

I tell this to my mother.

Her response? Take a pillow and imagine it is my arms around you as you hug it.

It's sunny and humid and in the 90s where she is. And she's debating going to the bank to deposit checks - including the government stimulus check she'd received with the Doofus's name on it (and doesn't really need and isn't sure what to do with.) I suggested she donate it to Joe Biden's campaign. Mother was amused, and is considering it.

I'd go for a walk - but I really don't know what it will do and Greenwood Cemetery is not the best place to be caught in the middle of a down-pour. There's no shelter to speak of. Also it's kind of depressing to stroll about a cemetery on a rainy day, not to mention cliche. I prefer the contrast.

Prospect Park isn't much better. Best to stay in. Plus I want a day with no mask wearing. (Which wasn't quite today - since I wore a mask to take my garbage to the garbage shoot. No one was out in the hall - I rarely see people in my apartment complex, but I wear it in case I run across someone.

Haven't accomplished much outside of making my bed up clean and fixing breakfast and lunch, and soon dinner. Also, writing on my dream-width journal - which doesn't quite count.

It's a quiet day. If it weren't for the news and the internet, I wouldn't know I was living with a world-wide plague.

New York vs. the Corona Virus

Apparently we're done to 84 confirmed coronavirus deaths in New York? Considering it was a 100 and some yesterday, this is good news. OTOH - considering there's a 25-40% inaccuracy ratio on testing - in that there could be many more due to COVID than were actually confirmed -- I'm skeptical. But the governor is going by the confirmed cases and relying on the test data - because honestly what else can he do.

It feels like the virus is gaslighting us. There's so much uncertainity. And the information available seems to contradict itself daily. I am constantly questioning myself.

But the data that they are relying on seems to support a marked decrease in the number of cases, deaths, and hospitalizations in the state of New York at least. Also, memorial day weekend is cooler and not beautiful and sunny here - so that means less likely hood of an uptick in cases.

As a result of all of this - they may begin to open Long Island later this week, and are starting to re-open the Mid-Hudson Valley area. NYC is going to be dead last and most likely closer to July. It's a harder animal to open, and not quite there yet. Also the vast majority of the NY population lives in NYC.

Miscellaneous

I've discovered that I do not digest grains at all well. Rice - every time I have it, I get heartburn. Had brown rice this week and did. Also sodium and salt makes me ache.

If I stay more restrictive in diet, I hurt less. Good to know.

Opened a window a crack - the air smells of fresh rain. I like that smell. It's fresh and clean.

No grains, that can be a hassle, so I sympathize even though I'm glad you know now.
