2. Biden's Vice Presidential Pick
So, my mother and I have had the following on-going conversation about Biden's Vice Presidential Pick.
Mother: Who do you think he'll pick?
Me: I don't know, or care. Anyone works for me.
Mother: Yes, but who would you want him to pick?
Me: I don't really care. As long as they win. It has to be a black woman.
Mother: He's not going to pick Warren.
Me: No, he can't pick Warren - he wants someone younger and simpatico to his views. Warren is just four years younger than he is. Also she's white. And the group that voted for Biden voted against Warren. And the Warren group will support him - because well hello..
Mother: So who do you think he'll pick?
Me: Ugh. I don't know, I've lost track of the candidates.
Today.
Mother: He's supposed to pick someone today. But he hasn't yet. It was supposed to be at noon!
(My parents have been religiously following this. They are bored and info junkies.)
ME: Okay.
Mother: So who do you think he's going to pick?
ME: Don't care.
Mother: It probably isn't Warren. (I think mother secretly wishes he'd pick Warren. We all voted for Warren. But we also all know Warren would be a bad idea.)
Me: For a while I thought it was Rice, but Me: For a while I thought Susan Rice - but that'll bring back Benghazi, Libya and Hillary Clinton. Although honestly if the Republicans bring that up again, they are only emphasizing their own hypocrisy.
Mother: True. Won't stop them.
Me: I think his best bet is Kamala Harris - who granted is a bit tarnished due to her strong law and order prosecutorial stance, but that could work well against Trump. I like Harris. I wanted to vote for Harris. I've been rooting for Harris. But they have to pick someone that won't be ripped apart too much.
Mother: Whomever he picks will be ripped apart - because she's a woman.
Me: Yes, the Republicans are predictably misogynistic toads.
4PM
Mother: Biden picked Kamala Harris.
Me: Oh good. At least I got someone I wanted. A first! (For the record the only Presidential Candidates I liked were Kamala Harris, Corey Booker and Warren. I ignored the debates - I found them poorly orchestrated marketing ploys. I just read up on the candidates and figured out which one's platforms I agreed with, and what their backgrounds were.)
Mother: She's not as ideological.
Me: Hence the reason I like her.
I like Harris because she comes across as pragmatic, smart, knows the letter of the law, charismatic, and doesn't fall into the trap of ideology.
3.For the first time since 1915, three baseball games will be played at three different sites in NY on the same day. Today, the Yankees, the Mets and the Blue Jays are all playing games in New York State. Earlier this year, we announced that the Toronto Blue Jays would play most home games this season at Buffalo's Sahlen Field; that means today is the first time that Buffalo has hosted a major league baseball game in 105 years. - Per the NY Governor's newsletter.
Sports is just weird right now. I feel sorry for college athletics programs. And people who watch college football. For the first time in forever - there may not be a college football program. And it doesn't like there will be a professional football season either.
4. This kind of puts a whole new spin on the idea of..."Got Milk".
On day 101, the Nourish NY program has spent more than $9 million to connect surplus food from farms to food banks across the state. So far, the initiative has redirected 14.1 million pounds of raw milk into dairy products like cheese, yogurt and milk, as well as approximately 3.5 million pounds of produce. Over 280,000 households have received products sourced from 4,100 farms.

Following their successful "20 Seconds or More" and "20 Segundos o Mas" campaign, the organization released a new song to inform listeners of the importance of wearing a mask and how wearing a mask is an effective tool from stopping the spread of the virus. 6. Hardly surprising after San Diego Comic Con...Due to Coronavirus concerns, this year's New York Comic Con will be held virtually. The popular event which is usually held in the Javits Center in Manhattan will feature online programming from October 8-11 this year. " Maybe I can actually see some of it? I'm allergic to crowds, so never go. Comic con is apparently for extroverted fans. But the online version works quite well for the introverted fans.
I don't care if I see famous people in person. People are people. Fame doesn't tend to make them more personable or likable, actually the reverse to be honest.
There was a meme going around on FB, where you name five celebrities you've met and one who was a jerk to you. I couldn't do it - I don't think any of them were necessarily jerks - also if they are - I can kind of understand why. That said, the story that stuck with me was a waiter who had a very bad experience with Billy Crystal. The restaurant was closing. Crytal came in and threw his weight around demanding to be served. Was picky about what he got. Complained about the service. And tipped low. Ah, save me from entitled celebrities.
Folks? Just because you did something cool, doesn't entitle you to be an ass.
That said, most of the stories? I thought, look, people have bad moods. And to constantly have to deal with "Fans" who think they know you because they see you every day on television or read all your books or went to your concerts...most be difficult.
I don't want to be famous. Sounds exhausting. People are weird.
