Day # 149
I survived the paint job, now my apartment smells like paint - although it is receding so there's hope. There's always hope.
Crazy Workplace has appeared to schedule the Microsoft Teams Staff Meeting to say a fond farewell to Lando. Unless it's just a teams meeting, but I doubt it. My boss isn't into Teams, he was talked into it by Chidi. This is pure speculation on my part of course.
The paint job was completely unnecessary. They didn't paint any of the portions of the kitchen that had suffered water damage - such as the window sill, or the dirty wall around the island. It was mainly the hallway - which I never look at and do not care about. I have a narrow hallway - that is too narrow to put anything in, and the light is hard to find.
I told mother I felt like I lived in a world ruled by idiots.
Crazy Workplace kind of increased this feeling.
Insurance - we have to get insurance approved for all work.
Insurance: The Railroad Protective Liability Insurance is missing.
Me: You waived it a month ago - see the waiver attached.
Insurance: The gaps in policy between August 2019-2020 need to be addressed.
Me: There was no awarded work between August 2019-2020, this is for August 2020-2021.
Insurance: Okay we found the waiver in another email thread, but the gaps need to be addressed.
Me: The gaps do not need to be addressed - there was no contracted work between August 2019 and 2020, hence the reason no insurance policies. No work = no need for insurance.
Insurance: Okay the Insurance has been approved for August 2019 to August 2020, it will expire 8/23/2020.
ME: No, it expires in 8/23/2021. This is for August 2020- 2021, there was no work for 2019-2020. Please make a note of this. Also you have the wrong contact for the vendor.
I could go on, but why bore you?
I did go out for a brief walk - it's too hot and humid (mainly too humid) for a longer one. I felt like I was trudging through water again - and my allergies tend to flare up.
Also, at lunchtime, got a brief scare using the elevator. I got impatient and used the old 1920s elevator that you have to pull open. It went to the basement - there was a boy with a bike helmet and no mask standing near the recyclable bins. I needed to get to them - to unload my recyclables prior to my kitchen being invaded by the painter at 1PM. Also I thought I had a staff meeting at 1:30 - I don't know why, it just keeps getting rescheduled. Been rescheduled three times now.
So I swung around the boy, dumped my recyclables and pulled open the elevator. One problem when it went up, it had the wrong door closed, and that door didn't open nor did it go anywhere. I was trapped in a 1920s elevator with 0 air circulation during a frigging pandemic, no cell phone on me. I panicked. Finally figured out to push the alarm and the button to the basement, the doors opened. I pushed the alarm back in. And darted to the new elevator.
Frightening. The kid was down there storing his bike in the basement. I cursed him all the way up the elevator.
There's an uptick in cases in a Brooklyn community - which may or may not explain why I saw more people with masks today. The painter had a N95, he's also an older man. It's the people under 40 who aren't taking it seriously enough. I keep wanting to buy more masks. But alas, where?
Meanwhile crazy transportation agency keeps sending me emails telling me to get tested. I know I don't have it. There's no way I could. And there's no symptoms. Also as my mother has pointed out - I could get tested, only to get it afterwards. And I know people who had the symptoms, got tested too early, and got false negatives. At least two family members got tested, had it, and got false negatives. It doesn't show up if it isn't in the nose or throat. But it can be somewhere else. Also getting a test - means exposing myself to others with the virus - since I can't just drive up and do it.
Other than that - a relatively uneventful day.
Here's a flower.
