Just two corollaries - buddhism and hinduism certainly have patriarchy issues coming out of its ears - whenever I see the idealisation of these religions in the West, I am wry. It's not that I do not value both these faiths, I certainly do. I just see a whole different aspect to it as well.
As for demonisation. My thinking is that disagreeing with someone, or calling an opinion immoral or bad is not necessarily demonising them. Demonizing a group of people is to literally make them a monster that needs to be eradicated, perhaps physically. A la vampires in BtVS. There is no option but that Buffy needs to get rid of vampires. There are plenty of other people that Buffy doesn't particularly like or respect or get on with, but that is not comparable to those that are kill-able. The series is pretty playful with this literal 'demonisation', recognising the other undertones to this in real life.
