Day #13 of the 30 day film meme...

It is Day #13 of the 30 Day Film Challenge.

The prompt is - A Film that puts you in deep thoughts.

Yeah, I know. WTF? Right?

I had to think about it...I already used Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in another category, so it doesn't work.

Going with...

Had a discussion with my brother once - who felt that the casting should have been flipped.

I suppose I've had several that made me think a lot. but this is the one I remember thinking about the most. I wish it were required viewing for anyone called to be a juror. But then I suppose the message would just bounce off most people. One incident, four eyewitnesses, four stories.

Rashomon is essential. Besides introducing Kurosawa to an international audience, it's the first example of a cinematic trope that has been copied thousands of times since: flashbacks by unreliable narrators.

If you can't do "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," do the next best thing:

Being John Malkovich, dir. by Spike Jonze (1999)

The scene where Malkovich enters the portal to his own brain still blows my mind:

Malkovich?

Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich.

Mmmmmmm....Malkovich.

Even more mind blowing? Apparently, this was Charlie Kaufman restraining himself. The original ending was supposed to be a puppet battle between Craig-as-Malkovich and Fleener (as in the guy who built the Fleener Building), operating a giant Harry Truman puppet...

And then it gets weird.
