Day #299
I'm numb or as they say in that Pink Floyd song...comfortably numb. (I'm not sure if I qualify as a Pink Floyd fan or not? I saw them in concert, but it was in the 1980s...and I was unimpressed. That concert was notable in my memory for two reasons - I and another woman decided after standing in the line for the woman's restroom for well over an hour and a half, to ditch it for the men's restroom. I've done this a few times in my life. We bonded in the line - I was complaining about the ex-boyfriend that I was seeing the concert with. We'd gotten tickets before we broke up - so, it was notable for that reason as well. Also, my brother introduced me to Floyd. My brother actually has introduced me to 50% of the music I've listened to over the years. He made a mixed tape and I listened to it endlessly. (We did that back then. Do people still do that?) And I had most of their stuff on tape cassette (taped off of others or bought) and a couple CDs. No albums - I fell for them around the same time I stopped buying records.I don't like records - I find them difficult to play, the needle always skipped. I prefer ipods. And no, my hearing isn't attuned enough to note any difference. Anyhow, not sure that makes me a fan?]
Mother: How are you?
ME: I'm numb. I don't know last week I was having panic attacks and crying at the drop of the hat. This week? I don't seem to care that much about anything. It's as if my nervous system got overloaded and decided okay, that's it, time to take a break and shut down.
Mother: Numb is good. Sometimes we need a break from the onslaught of emotion. A lot happened last week. I'm kind of numb too.
Mother advises me that Debbie Peebles, the second in charge at the retirement community she lives in or at, didn't appear to know that they had booted Aunt K out of there. Not that Aunt K fought or that we did. Mother isn't much of a fighter. I'm a fighter. Mother isn't. She's kind of like bro - and goes with the flow.
This is actually good news - because it means it may be easier for Aunt K to come back and assist Mother for a lengthy period of time - as a compassionate health care worker/visitor. (Apparently bro and I won't qualify - so we can't come and stay. Bro really wants to go down next and do it - but Aunt K and mother are thinking at this point, Aunt K might be the better bet. (I'm not an option - since I'm the only one with a full time job, and well, crazy workplace.)
Meanwhile...in other COVID related news..
* At lunch time - in lieu of calling mother, I took a walk. And discovered outside the building - two cop cars and an ambulance. Inside the building, they were escorting a little old Russian lady from the apartment below me. She had a cane and was arguing with them - apparently she didn't consider herself that ill and didn't understand why she had to leave. I recognized her as the tenet in the apartment below mine - who refuses to wear a mask and gave all concerned a wide berth.
Below is a picture of the ambulance and cop cars in front of apartment complex.

Note you can't see both cop cars, one was on the island behind the ambulance, blocking off that walkway/bike path. It was odd.
* We've had our first death in my department of crazy agency - although it's really the new agency department that I've been arbitrarily placed in. I never met the guy nor knew he even existed until today. He died of complications due to COVID-19. My guess, from what I've seen people do the last few months, he will not be alone.
The US has seriously bungled its response to the pandemic. I'm not sure we could done any worse if we tried.
And I keep getting emails from crazy org and my health care provider basically telling me the vaccine is available but not to me, and not quite yet, but it will be - stay tuned.
Mother said that she'd asked, and while they had vaccinated all the health care workers at her rehab facility - they weren't vaccinating the patients yet. And at my Dad's facility they aren't sure when or if they can vaccinate him yet - even though they vaccinated everyone else at the facility (he came in after the fact). On FB, about ten of my pals have gotten the vaccine, everyone is fine - no side effects. Apparently only hate, possibly COVID, and misinformation can turn you into a mutant zombie, not the vaccine.
Took a walk after work today - to the pharmacy, to pick up supplies that are best purchased at the pharmacy. I'd run out of Magnesium Citrate, which helps the digestive system. I got to work on that - someone posted on the COVID group that I'm in - on FB that COVID is especially severe for anyone with gut issues or inflammatory disease. As one poster, who'd discovered she was gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant posted - "okay, now I might as well blockade myself in my apartment, build a moat, put up gates, and hire dragons."

At work, I spoke with Chidi and attended a Teams meeting with Jay, which was aggravating. Hopefully the one on Thursday is less aggravating. I kind of miss talking to Chidi, Chidi told me that he missed talking to me as well.
Chidi: So what do you make of what happened in Washington?
ME: You mean the Big Mutant Zombie Apocalypse (that wasn't)? We watched the implosion of the Republican Party.
Chidi: MAGA aren't Republicans.
Me: Yes they are.
Chidi: No, they are a fringe group -
Me: They consider themselves Republicans. Personally, I view them as the mutant zombie virus that infected the Republican Party some time ago and has been building since and needs to be addressed.
Chidi: Okay, you have a good point there. So what do you make of it? Did they have a plan - because -
Me: Yeah, they had a plan. They planned on invading the Capital, taking hostages, and executing everyone who didn't agree with them. But they weren't at all organized and had no real plan on how to go about it. So basically they had a set of goals but no definitive plan and no leadership. Their leadership - is well the idiot in the White House.
Chidi: They planned on taking hostages and killing people? Really?
Me: Yep. I read it - it's all over social media. Also watched the videos.
They are racist. MAGA is a racist terrorist organization. They are racists. All you have to do is watch that video for a second - and it's clear as day. We lucked out that they are also incredibly stupid and can't plan shit.
Chidi: Yeah, I'd agree.
ME: Let's see what was the most recent thing I called them? Make Assholes Great Again. Or better yet, Mutant Assholes Gone AWOL or Maskless Assholes Gone AWOL. Maybe even Make Assholes Go AWOL...I can't quite decide.
Chidi burst out laughing. Gallows humor folks. It keeps me going.
I texted Aunt K that we might be to get her back to assist Mom next week, assuming of course we don't have a big mutant zombie apocalypse in the interim.
Speaking of the Big Mutant Zombie Apocalypse (that wasn't)?
I got an email from one of the senators that I had supported, Chris Murphy, who somehow or other I ended up on the email listserve of, not sure how? I think it's because I signed some petition he was pushing? Or my support for Jamie Harrison and Amy McGrath.
Anyhow - his email goes into detail as to what happened from his perspective. It's harrowing. I know what happened now - I've seen it and read it from multiple perspectives. I'm trying to be kind, but I'm not sure it works with terrorists.
According to the NY Times Briefing...it looks like both the House and the Senate will impeach the 45th this week. The Republicans are slowly coming around to the Democrats perspective, and are in agreement that he has to go.
The House is poised to vote tonight to formally call on Vice President Mike Pence to strip President Trump of his duties.
If Mr. Pence does not invoke the 25th Amendment, House Democrats have promised a vote on impeachment on Wednesday, charging the president with “inciting violence against the government of the United States.” Tonight’s vote is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m. and take about three hours.
The vote comes after news that F.B.I. officials raised alarms about the threat of violence the day before a mob attacked the Capitol, according to a law enforcement official. The alert mentioned people sharing a map of tunnels at the Capitol complex and possible meet-up points in several states.
In his first public appearance since the siege, Mr. Trump, above in Alamo, Texas, showed no regret for instigating the attack, saying that his remarks to a rally beforehand were “totally appropriate” and that the effort by Congress to impeach and convict him was “causing tremendous anger.”
Senator Mitch McConnell is said to believe Mr. Trump committed impeachable offenses, and is pleased Democrats are moving to impeach him. House Republican leaders have also decided not to formally lobby their members against voting to impeach him.
They've gathered enough information now to realize that Trump has committed Treason and is using his followers as a weapon to secure his power. His followers aren't as big a threat as he thinks they are. They are less than 1% of the population. And half of them are sick of COVID-19, because they are idiots and don't wear masks. To put this into context? 10,000 showed up on Jan 6. And of that number, many have come forward with apologies or denouncements of their actions. Add to that - their means of communication online has collapsed for the most part. Also, keep in mind over the summer? We had 26-50 million Americans march peacefully for Black Lives Matter in all 50 states.
And apparently Trump's upset because his toys were taken from him - Twitter and the PGA Masters Tournament. Sigh. He can't disappear fast enough. Him and his insane followers.
Enuf. Here have a picture of a sunset. Sunsets remind me that the world goes on, no matter how crazy the human race gets.

no subject
no subject
no subject
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move, but I can't hear what you say
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain, you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb
What has always impressed me about this particular song is the way the specific situation it was describing-- the despair and depression an inordinately successful musician can sink into when he/she/the band gets forced by their label or promoters into relentless, grueling tours that their fans expect to be phenomenal-- is equally applicable to so many other real-life destructive stresses.
But yet... there's that stunning guitar riff at the very end, where 'Pink'-- numb or not-- manages to pour all of that pain into the music, making it rise to art in a majestic, transcendent fashion.
A slightly older song of theirs was 'Welcome To The Machine' on the same subject, and there are others.
This is a DVD you might wish to check out, or perhaps it can be downloaded or streamed. Highly recommended, not just a concert film.
