Some of Donnelly's moves remind me of Black...so that makes sense. I've not seen the episodes. But it appears that Whedon pulls a twist similar to what he did in Dollhouse, and kind of did in Marvel Agent of Shield, and wanted to do with Buffy (see Fray). If it is what I think it is? Sigh.
Only Terminator pulled that off well - possibly because they were the first to do so. Everyone else feels like a bad copy.
